Re: 1975 Starcraft 140 Evinrude OB -- Restoration IN PROGRESS FINALLY
Hi rrumba, nice progress. Lookin' good. I noticed a similarity in the condition of your hull with mine that you may want to consider before moving on. I had a problem with fatigue cracking in my Holiday at the ends of several ribs. Notice that the end of your rib in the red square has a telltale curl to it, such that it no longer lies flat on the hull. I'm sure it wasn't built that way. It must be from deformation as the hull flexes to the extent that the rib allows it, creating a "stress riser" at the last rivet. You may want to reinforce the rib/hull in this area before cracks start. See my thread in my signature for my experience with hull cracks. - Grandad
Thanks for stopping by there Grandad and CATCHING that. I really did not even pay attention to it until you pointed it out.
Now THAT ^^^^ is a GREAT CATCH!!!!
Only problem I see is...The deck is completely installed and attached.
Decision Time!!!!!
Decision time it was........ I went back and looked at some other photos of the other ribs just to check those as well in case i had to take up the sole i could plan on addressing each one at once. I also looked at my pics of the bare hull upside down and the others that i had taken with where the water was leaking when i filled the hull up.
SO the good new is after checking with an inspection mirror and flashlight, then a friends small inspection camera rig, searching the other pics i mentioned, without actually removing the rib from the hull i could not find any stress cracks anywhere along those points. There was no leaking around the top of the ribs when i did the water either. I did add some extra Gluvit around it just in case as a precaution.
Finally result is what EZ stated, not to mess with it since i cannot find a problem.
I certainly wouldn't mess with it.
Since i could not find anything after a through check i agree. thanks for the cruzing through EZ
Hey RR, nice work on the sole! Really well done! Good luck w/ the paint removal, & have a great weekend.
Thanks JB. Yeah, the paint removal...........
Spectacular work man. That's the kind of boat I'd want to buy after a restore.
Thanks for the visit Sprint and kind words. it is certainly sturdy that if for sure.
