Pick up respirator and tyvek suit today. Tried the suit on. Wife said I look like a dumb***, I agree:D. Atleast I won't be itching too bad.

Nice job on the cradle.
I don't think you look like a dumb ***** Just a man ready to go to work.
I tell you what, if some of that glass dust makes it to your bed, the wife will have you wearing 2 of those suits.
Not all of the guys around get to wear these cool looking Zoot suits. :D

Looks like you're ready to do some serious grinding. Your cribbing fits like a glove.
That Tyvek suit and respirator is the best money you'll ever spend. You may consider goggles, otherwise stock up on a case of eyedrops. Best of luck. The next couple of days grinding is the worst part of the whole job - at least for a far as I have gone.

Decker, I'm sure my neighbors will think I'm a freak out there in that suit:) and yes I've been waiting awile to do this so I really don't care. Ready to take care of business, know what I mean?

Jones, I got the idea for my cradle from the pic on my thread you posted last year. I liked the idea of the plywood ribs you were useing. Thanks man.

Wood, yes I will use that tip aswell. I cut the deck out without all of the gear and it was horrible. Seems like the creases of my arms were the worst part.

TDF, lmao.

I spent about an hour today getting the grinding tent together. That A-frame I built has came in handy sooooo many times.

I think I'm going to rig up a filter useing The A/C filters that we use in the house. Something like tapeing two of them together then tapeing that to a box fan. Might take more than two. It will be a trial and error thing I'm sure. I don't want to get that stuff all over the kids toys and stuff. They love to be outside just as much as I do.
Have a good evening Iboaters.

I have a question for you glassmasters. I want to order 10 gallons of resin to start with.

How much 1708 and csm should I order with that?

Seems like I remember reading 1 gallon will wet out 3 square feet.

Got started on some major grinding today. I removed the lower part of the transom. I beleave I can use it to make the template. The box fan and filters works great. Started to rain on me but shouldn't last long.

Done some grinding and learned some things. I've been useing 60 grit flapper wheel. There is like a thick layer of resin in the bottom of the hull near the transom. So I'm going to pick up some 36 grit wheels today.

Also I have learned not to waste money on this set up.

With that setup I had to take a break every ten minutes because they fogged up so bad I was grinding blind.
So I use this now and it is WELL WORTH THE $$$$. Very very good product.
Notice the cracks in the lower pic. That from a tap with a screwdriver.
Ordered my rsin and stuff Friday, SWEET!

If you can find them get 24 grit from Home Depot. They will do a better job on that thick resin.

Re: 1976 Arrowglass transom replacement and then some

Hello all. Hope everyone is getting alot of work done.

Been grinding on the transome area. I'm to a tricky spot and I was wondering if you guys know of a better way to grind these spots here. The bottom picture is what I have been useing on the drill. I was think of investing on a drimel tool and use a steel grinding bit or something of that sort. Have a good evening.

1st pic I snickered looks like a beach in his boat.
2nd pic Hard to tell how thick that ridge is but other than trying to knock it down so your glass will lay flat your done
3rd, 4th pic you're done

Don't sweat those spots they won't matter much once you goop your PB in there to fill your gap around the trans wood and make your fillet. IOW looks like you're doing a good job grinding!

Should add the truly important part is on the flat where your tabbing will go.

Thanks TDF, I like that answer. I will smooth everything out. Yeah, I wish that stuff was more like sand at the beach.

Re: 1976 Arrowglass transom replacement and then some

Thanks for the heads up Wood. Since I have my game plan all together and I'm comfortable with the grinding procedures, I'm ready to start a game plan for my stringers. I want to think about my options wile I'm grinding. The transome is pretty straight forward and there is lots of info here on iboats about it.

I removed my stringers by simply pulling the boards out from inbetween the fiberglass tabbing. Each stringer is made out of a single board. I would like to replace each stringer the same way they came out. I cann't seem to find a post that uses this procedure. All that I have read used plywood and were glued together to make them the correct length. I want to use boards. My stringers are just under 12'. Would using southern yellow pine, whitewood, or kiln-dried whitewood work? Thanks Guys.

Also the stringers are 3/4" thick. It shouldn't matter if I installed 1" thick right?
