Can u add metal flake to rustoleum paint that would be rolled on or is it an option with the brand?

I have not heard of that option. I sprayed the top side of my last boat with Rustoleum Metallics paint in rattle cans. That didn't go too well. Had a real dull finish which required me to clean coat it to make it look nice and the Rusto clear did not hold up well at all.

Thanks EZ. I didn't think there would be an option like that from rustoleum but I'm not too familiar with their better stuff other than the rattle cans they have. Hell, I didn't even know they carried quarts or gallons till now. Thanks iboat guys.
Has anyone tried to ADD flake to the paint like u can do in automotive paint? Does anyone THINK it would work or do I have to be the guinea pig?

OH yeah! Cadwelder, I have read that a few people let their wood sit and dry for a few days. Cann't remember what type of wood, they just posted that they are letting their wood dry as far as I can remember. sorry. Here is what I have so far that people used: Exterior ply, acx ply, mdo ply, some even hard wood, ?kitilyn? dried. I think there needs to be a sticky that talks about specific woods used. Pros and cons of each and ofcourse pictures of the layers side. But just a suggestion! Personally I think I'll go with the ext. ply for the transom. Not sure about the stringers yet. Trying to buy locally. Have a good one guys

Good evening iboat veiwers. I worked on the boat for a few hours today. I have all the wood out except for this lower part of the transom. Transom is 2 piece setup I guess. I will try to get this piece out as neatly as I can so I can use it as a template. Lower part of the transom has a decrease in the angle. I plan to grind the crap out of this thing tomarrow. Hopefully get the grinding DONE.

Hello iboaters. My process is soooo slow. I would like to devote more time on my boat but a famliy man with a job, well, you understand maybe.

I think we're out of warm days here in KY and I've read that it's best to lay glass when its around 80*f, so I will move to something else with the boat. That will be the trailer. Removing old piant and applying new. Some of the welds look like crap so I will be rewelding those. Break out the Speedglass for that. Also I want to add more coats of clear to the bottom of the hull.
OK, now for the questions. PO painted the boat with automotive paint, I beleave omni brand since that is what we us most around here. Is this OK? I've decided that I like the color I have and I want to keep it the same, top and bottom. It matches my truck. Is there a special clear coat I can apply on this? A gel coat perhaps? Roll on perferred. I will sand as much has I have to. I really don't want to hual it down the road to get it sprayed. Thank you.

Hello all. Hope everything is good.
I want to repaint my boat and I have some serious holes I want to fill. I have filled some small screw holes with all purpose epoxy and sand it down. These here are more complicated. Figured I could glass the underside of the boat lid with some autostore stuff, then maybe takeing a holesaw and cut the diameter of the hole in a peice of plywood. Then using the plug that was cut out, set it in the hole of the boat and epoxy the gaps. But this is just for the hole that has the wood in between the layers of glass which is the console. The others, kinda skepitcal on those. Glass the unseen side then fill with PB. Ofcourse sand everything smooth. Please help guys. Im going to first shift this Monday and I will have more time to move along with this. Thank you.

Not sure what part of KY you are in, but you can still glass, it's not that cold yet. The cooler the weather the longer it takes to kick. I glassed my in the winter and I'm only 40 minutes south of Louisville. I still haven't finished my project and I'm almost three years into it. Work has kept me off it for the year but hope to be back at it in a couple months, when I get back home. Did I mention I am also working outside. The boss won't let me put it in the garage. LOL

Thank you Bob. I'm 30 min south of Owensboro. Good to hear the temps here are holding up. I try to follow directions thoroughly so I'm not sure about all the short cuts we can take and not worrying about this and that.
Wonderful thread btw. I'm still a younger guy I guess and I see wood working in my future. I love the art in good work. Must say that is a beautiful router table. I've taken some Mechine Tool Tech classes in college. Precision is an art.

Ok I have some much glassing to do to the deck and all that I decided to repaint the whole boat. The reason being is that I am removeing the livewell inbetween the seats and adding a third seat. I want to fill all holes on the boat to have a fresh cap to mount the hardware. The hull is in such great shape but the cap looks like someone couldn't decide where they wanted to mount the hardware. Any info on repairing them would help. If my ideas are good from the above reply then just type "good to go". Without the smiley, thats from me. I want to run my ideas through you guys before I proceed.

JB, if it were me, I'd grind the back side and lay a couple of layers of CSM. I'd then mix up some structural PB to fill the holes . I'd then grind it all back a bit and lay a couple more layers of csm, sand, fair and paint. Really not all that hard. You could use the Auto Body stuff since it's all topside repairs. I prefer not to but it's your boat and your choice. It does have wax in it so all you lams need to be done at one time or you will have to sand in between layers. Bondo Hair would be a good choice for filling the holes. Try and check the dates cuz it does have a shelf life. Wipe it all down with acetone before applying any of the resin or filler.

AH CRAP! I forgot the parts store's resin as the wax in it. Thanks Woodonglass, I really appreciate it sir.
I know the resin with wax can cause delamination.

Thanks for the kind words on my thread and hobbies. The router table is one of my favorite projects. I might even get it finished some day, even though it is usable now.
Be sure to take lots of pic's, we older folks like pic's it saves on the reading and eye strain. LOL
Pictures are worth a thousand words and will really help everyone help you quicker.

Seems like forever ago since I have post anything on my thread. But I've had a very productive weekend. Spent 16 hours on this cradle. LOTS of measuring. I think I got though. As soon as the weather permits, I will lay waxpaper on the hull under each cradle rib. Lay a bead of that spray foam along each rib, then lower the cradle onto the foam/hull. Add weight to the cradle so the foam doesn't push the cradle upwards. This should fill all gaps the cradle may have.

I hope the cradle works out for me but if it doesn't, guess I'll just redo it.
Before it turned cold on us last year I did disassemble my trailer and primered it all. I'll paint it later this year.
Also I built an A-frame so I could hoist the cap up and get it off of the ground and set it on a more level surface. Use the frame to flip the hull as well. It made it a two person job with very little strain on either of us. Also I ordered a panel. I searched a long time to find the right one for the right price. Still need a tach though. I'll hit iboats up for that.

Well I got my boat on the cradle and I must say I'm very pleased with the results. It...is...snug. I will level everything soon. I'm going to run string lines acrossed the hull were the floor used to be in combination with a "string line level". Raise the cradle where it needs to be to be leveled. Seems like a good idea. Will be measured/leveled at each cradle rib. Hope yalls day was good.

Now I will start on some major grinding. First the transome. The transom is two pieces, top and bottom. The bottom is just a very small piece. I will leave that part in and just grind the upper part. I will make the upper part of the transome before i start to remove the lower part. Will not glass yet, just make the two pieces ply.
