You are going to get so many compliments on that boat at the ramp for sure. Looks showroom.

Can I nitpick? With how bright, crisp, and clean everything is, those seats are kinda bumming me out. What if you were to hit them with some of that Krylon plastic paint in white to brighten them up.

You can nitpick all you want. I totally agree with you about the seats. One thing I will mention is I have not had a chance to clean them at all so they still have a fair amount of old dirt and crud on them. They need a good cleaning. But with that said no amount of cleaning will get them white. I have also considered painting them, however I was concerned about the paint eventually peeling and then getting stuck in a long term maintenace problem/situation. Do you think a plastic paint will really stick to that roto molded stuff?

I also have a question for you. How high above the hull bottom did you mount your transducers? I have a sounder that I will be installing and I am not sure where to mount the transducer.

I think the plastic paint will stick. It's made for exactly that. I believe Krylon and Rusto have a version now.

My transducer has a line down the middle of it that's supposed to be even with the hull. We shall see if I got it right. The one I installed on the Jupiter didn't work at all on plane.

Okay. I will look into the paint then.

For the transducer, I just don't want to have a rooster tail going behind the boat at speed but at the same time still read while moving.

Yeah me too. We'll see how I do. It doesn't have a good half inch of adjustment though in the same holes.

Nice looking work, you have a very sharp boat! Cool building by the way, its been a while since steel was hot riveted together!

Thanks for the compliments Arch. Yeah that is an old military warehouse that was probably post WWI era construction. The boat club that I belong to has two of these and over the years we have made several modifications to suit boat storage. Main change was we installed high bay automatice doors so we can get in boats with T-tops and such. We also installed a small boat lift in this particular warehouse so that we can do boat and trailer maintenance. You see my boat in the slings several times in this thread. I would not have been able to do what I have done without this facility. I am indeed very lucky.

Oh....you would be able....just not as comfortable. When are you going to splash? My wife is looking for an excuse to buy a video camera. I'm actually considering getting one just for the big day. Can we expect video from yours?

Hey Drew. I am going to try and splash it today. Yes I do plan on video recording the maiden voyage. I got one of those tiny Kodak Play Sport HD video cameras for my last birthday. It's waterproof to 3 meters and totally idot proof to operate. Great for taking out on on the water in the boat.

Re: 1977 Cruise Boats Restore

Well yesterday I finished up pretty much everything and I am going to try to splash the boat today if the weather gets warm enough.

So yesterday I started off by installing weather proof rubber boots on the breakers and switches of my switch panel. The basic panel was not weather resistant at all. So I bought the cooresponding rubber boots for the panel.

This was the basic panel.

Here it is with one boot on the top beaker button. You have to unscrew the original retaining ring and then screw on a new ring with the boot.

And then the finished panel.

And this post is dedicated to Ezmobee. He has this nack of triggering my obsessive/compulsive side with his thoughts and suggestions. I was going to leave the seats alone. But noooooo...EZ was getting bummed out by them. ;)

So okay...FINE!!!! BE THAT WAY! I took the seats out, cleaned them good and painted them with a Kraylon plastic paint. And guess what...they turned out great. So, many thanks go out to EZ for pushing me to the end and keeping me honest on the finishing ouches. Thanks big guy.

Nice thing about the plastic paints is no sanding and no priming. Just a good wipe down with paint thinner.

Before they looked yellowish and tired:

After a few light coats they look new:

That's a cool little recorder, I'm going to look into it! I am patiently waiting the splashing. Glad I'm not going with you, I would probably be the first to spill a beverage or leak blood on the deck.

Good Luck Greg!

Thanks Sasto. It works really well and gives a great video.
Spillage is allowed on board no worries. Get your sun glasses ready!

I just read the reviews on the camera. I'm sending the lady to get me one. 3 things I like about it. Size, cost, waterproof up to 10'. Is it moonshine proof too? I see it has image stabilization!

My sunglasses are on......proceed!

BRAVO! They look great. Nice work and I'm glad you did it.

So I'm sitting at my buddy's house in Eldersburg right now and it's COLD and WINDY! Whew, good luck on your splash!
