I almost forgot to order rivets.. can someone tell me EXACTLY what rivets I need for 3/4 ply? I know I need the larger dome and all aluminum. Not sure what else to look for. I cant find where to get them either. Im currently searching all over the forums to find answers =) hoping either I find the answer or I get a response before the end of my break

I dont know what grip range I need? and its asking what max length I need.. I thought it would just be 1 inch or something but all the options are like .500, .950, ect.. new to the rivet game..

Sorry for all the posts.. but this is what I was looking at getting.. That look ok? All of this is just to bolt the floor down. I am using 3/4 inch ply. I know its a little thicker but it was the most readily available ply by me.
  • Grip Range: .625-.875
  • Head Style: Large Flange Head
  • MATERIAL: Aluminum Rivet w/ Aluminum Mandrel
  • Body Diameter: 3/16
  • Max Length: .950

I used 5/8 inch plywood and used the same rivets. The ,875 grip range may be cutting it close if you don't have a flush fit between the risers and plywood. Just a thought.

The next size up is .876-1 grip range and max length is 1.2. Should I go one step higher?

I'm no professional on rivets and frankly know nothing about starcrafts. I've seen where other Starcraft owners need to buy them.... Not sure why you would rivet through wood.

All that said, you usually want the shank to mushroom about 1 & 1/2 times the original width if the shank. Too little and you loose surface area for grip. Too much and the mushroomed shank is prone to cracking and you loose your surface area for grip.

Metal to metal is easy enough to figure, but I don't know how much expansion occures when goig through asofter substance like wood.

FYI, there are different styles of rivet domes so you might want to confirm before ordering

Ok thanks for the posts guys really appreciate the help. Sorry kinda went into panick post mode. Kind of hard to finish the boat without the rivets. And I am getting the large heads on these btw.

I'd definitely go with the longer up to 1" rivets for your flooring. I used the up to .875 on my 1/2" flooring and they worked perfectly, even counter sunk a bit. The up to 1" are about as long as you're going to find in an aluminum river and most that size should be the large flange head like you want. The work great for attaching the rubrail channel as well.

got most of the tansom/splashwell area built after work today. Have to work 9-1 tomorrow so shorter day, hoping to get a lot more done. Would like to get the top built tomorrow and a first coat of epoxy on all the new wood along with the gas tank mounted and the main motor battery mounted. IF I could get all that done I can bolt down the back piece of flooring and the center piece as well.

Nice progress, I like the top opening hatches rather than having to crawl around on the deck to get at stuff. :thumb: You may want to think about bilge access for the pumps and what not. The deck plate in the SW is the route I took. As it is/looks now you don't have a way into the bilge area.

Are those extra long bolt threads from those eye bolts?

Yep not yet I will be building something for access to the bilge and may be putting battery in the center in front of the knee brace also. I was going to put it in the corner but theres no rib at the end of the boat to fasten it to. But again, havent quite decided what to do with it all just yet. Kind of need to get this SW area done so I can run wiring. Ill figure it out at that point I hope.

And WM I didnt notice your question at first glance. Yes those are the bolts fron the eye hooks Im cutting those down and sanding all of it down and putting more paint on. Going to wait til everything is bolted down though before that so I can paint the SW in the process. It all looks a little rough now Ill admit but itll clean up nice when Im done 😉

And thanks Pusher! I really wanted to reinforce this area also b/c my SW cracked 2 different times. Didnt want anything breaking loose this time around. This way there will be a lot of reinforcement and itll be very sturdy for when Im working on landing all those massive fish Ill be pulling in :-D

Also, absolutely loving that the floors are higher, so far anyways. I still have the safety of the boat but Im above everything including the motor. Going to be a lot easier to get the fish in. Going to trim the SW back a bit more so Ill have a little more room in the back.

Lastly, yes she is a very happy, spoiled rotten poodle lol. I grew up raising hunting dogs. Poodle came as a package with my wife when we met. Shes definitely grown on me. And the wife isnt half bad either 😀

Haha, the wife must not be a frequent visitor to your thread!

I'm working on my wife for a full-sized poodle. Hypoallergenic, what's not to like???

Btw, as far as the SW goes, are you trimming to fit your current motor or is there a standard fit for all motors. I'd like to follow your lead if I find the right project and house.

My mother in law has a full size poodle. They dont shed thats good but paying to get my dog a haircut is still a little odd to me..

And the SW nothing is different really. I jut cut the center of my old one out so its not taking up so much space. Also cut off a bit out of the front of it so I could put the front piece you see in pics and Im putting a top piece on (pics later workin on gas tank now) to hide all of it. Im annoyed I didnt take a pic before I cut it but if you saw in one of my last posts it wasnt really planned out. I just went and cut it otherwise I may have changed my mind aince Im short on time. If you try it just make sure its wide enough to let the water out of the.. holes in the transom that let water out lol. No idea what they are called
