Thats what I was thinking, I think I heard it around here. Maybe someone will chime in that knows about it all. I just didn't want to say something I wasn't sure about. However, they are all great boats and very easy to work on. If I ever buy another boat it'll be either an 18' or 22' SS V5, and power it with an ETEC. I really need to get this one done first though... :D

Thanks Huron, good read there. Makes things a bit less confusing... I will be painting my stripe later on just wanted to let you know that. I made the template and I will probably be getting it cut in vinyl in a couple weeks, if it turns out ok I will let you know. That way if you still want to do the stripe you can copy me and not make the same mistakes :D. Can't wait for all these Michigan guys to get their boats done.

O and yes spring is around the corner, the daylilies are starting to pop out of the ground. Just noticed it this morning :D

That's what I was thinking too. Probably should have started off with a restore and a smaller outboard to putt around then eventually switch over to the ETEC

The Etec's are sure nice, but it's not really in the price range... I do like having an outboard though.

Ok guys another question here. I want to seal around the keel where it pulled up before I paint. Any good sealers for that, that I could get at Home Depot, Lowes or an auto part store? It's a pretty big gap so I feel like it might be a good idea just to seal it up.
Also just found some more rivets that need to be done . So gotta put in another order for some, unless anyone knows of a local place?

Any ideas for these things? I still want to paint Thursday, so I need to get these done, but I have no idea what to do.

Fastenal has probably every type of rivet known to mankind, are these thru-hull rivets?

If not then you can buy normal pop rivets at any hardware store.

I'd recommend using gluvit maybe for the sealing around the keel, but I'm not sure what you meant exactly. Any sealer from HD or Lowe's will not hold up well over time in my opinion. 3M 5200 or Gluvit will hold much better.

I'll check online again, I had gotten my rivets from Fastenal before. They are the solid ones, so not very common.
Only thing aout gluvit or 5200 is that I would need to order it online, I'm thinking of getting some JB Weld to just fill it up or I may just leave it. It's really just a gap from not being riveted. I'll try to get some pictures up of it.

MarineTex? 3M 5200? I think we might need some photos to get a good look at what you are afixen. I saw the photo at post #51 but I think that is before you stripped gunk away maybe?

That's about what it is in the photo from beforehand. I'm almost thinking that I shouldn't really worry about it now that I just went out and looked at it. Here's a better picture of what's going on. Still ugly as heck since I gave up on stripping everything off.

The new rivets I put in pulled it down a ton, it's just those spots where it is still up where there are no rivets that bother me. I'm not sure whether or not to seal those spots that are still up or leave them be. There are a couple more spots like this, but this spot is by far the worst.

I just need to get paint on this thing and get it flipped back over so I don't have to see this again. I just drilled out another 12 rivets, so I think it would be best to do it the right way with solid rivets. I guess I could always do them after paint, but I'll see what I can do. Thanks a ton guys! I will need to make something to help all of you that have helped me.

I don't think I'd sweat it. You could squeeze in some MarineTex/JB/5200 if ya wanted to.

Looking forward to seeing her painted, and I can tell you are too!

Cheers buddy!

Re: 1978 16' Starcraft SuperSport Resto

Yup that's what I'm going to do, a bit of JB and call 'er good. I'm also going to order some more rivets tonight. I'll just paint anyways, and I can go back and do the rivets with a dab of paint when I get them. If it falls off along the line then ohh well.

I think I've been thinking this is a "show" boat when it's really just a very functional "fun" boat :D. Thanks Jas, and Huron!

I was going to post the same thing as I was reading but EZ already did. If your rivets are tight, you won't have any leaks there.

Thats exactly what I figured out after looking at it for a while. Duh me. The only reason they were gunked up is because of all the missing rivets. Thanks EZ and dj. It seems like I way overthink things at first. I guess I just want it to be ok for a while.

Re: 1978 16' Starcraft SuperSport Resto

It's Thursday guys! You know what that means.

So I went out, washed the hull with soap and water. Then rinsed with water. Then the 50/50 water vinegar rinse. And the washed down with mineral spirits. I started with the bottom to try things out and get a hand of it. Light dusting of ZC then Rusto primer. Right now I have the whole hull done with the ZC, and two coats of primer. This gun works great, and for $15 that's amazing. It's a great day so things are drying quickly. Man I'm pumped :D.

Sadly the nice camera's battery died, so I've just got some crappy cell pictures. I'll get some better ones later when the battery charges.

Only thing that I don't like is how it brings out all of the flaws. All the areas that I didn't sand good enough look like crap. Ohh well it's all on the bottom anyways. If you can get outside, it's amazing out there today!

Not even close Jas. Thanks man!

So glad not to have to look at a multicolor, crap looking boat :D. Just went out and did another coat of primer. May go pick up some high grit sandpaper to go over her real quick before I do the finish coat to get any runs or whatever. It is so nice out there, I've been out in shorts and a tshirt! Might as well go get my flipflops :D.
