OK guys I haven't given up yet. But can anyone guess where I was? I know this is not really boat related, but there is water in the picture :D

And yes I did take this picture.

I will be back at the boat soon.

Actually Vancouver, BC. Very nice city, and I would love to go back again and spend some time on the water. I guess it does look like Alaska.

Well back to the boat. I'm moving slow again, I just need to get the powerwasher started and finish sanding. I've just got the port topside of the hull to do. The powerwasher will have to wait a bit because it has just gotten cold again, and I don't want an ice feild in my driveway :). I think I will get the consoles and splashwell sanded since my garage is dusty anyways.

Also just started doing some rivets, but I need to get someone over to help. Spring is coming! Time to move faster. Once this thing gets painted, I will try to move lightspeed. I will also get some pictures up of the sand job once I finish today.

Ok rivets are done, not that uniform or anything but they should work they all hold. A bit of finishing sanding left, then will power wash. Things are warming up now, so time to kick it into high gear.
Got myself a spray gun from Harbor Freight when I went to get some more sand paper, on sale for $14.99 :D Sweet! We'll see how it works.

Ok question now, where have people gotten their Zinc Chromate primer from? I think EZ said he got his at NAPA, but are there any other places? Also how many cans should I get? I was thinking at least 3, but am unsure. Also where are people getting their Epoxy from, and how much do you think I will need for the deck and transom? I've been doing a lot of research, but have yet to find a good number. Thanks Guys!

Re: 1978 16' Starcraft SuperSport Resto

I bought mine at http://www.aeromarineproducts.com/ on a tip by a post in my forum.
$132.00 for three gallons plus shipping. Easy to work with, but this is my first time ever working on a boat. We'll see how it holds up. I have a little less than a gallon left. I have a 16' as well. I coated the deck boards twice, transom, and some wood trim pieces when I had over mixed.

Got mine at Pep Boys. It was Duplicolor's and was reasonably priced. I think 3 cans oughta do you for a light dusting over the whole hull.

I got my epoxy from Clark Craft. It was nice to work with but I'm kinda hesitant to recommend it since I went through 3 gallons of it for my deck. 2 coats each side. The boards did come out looking like high end bar tops though! http://www.clarkcraft.com/cgi-suppl...esin&*******=9dc4fdd1e5a2e3ba99a65448a569d333 HA used the same stuff. Not sure if he went through as much as I did.

Yeah 3 gallons is probably about right for resin. I got mine from clarkcraft.com and was happy with the prices and the product.

Your idea for painting the stripe sounds good, I will be paying attention to that part since I have yet to try to paint mine as well.

I found ZC spray cans at advanced auto parts and home depot.

What part of Michigan are you in boatguy? I'm just north of Lansing.

Thanks, GT. I will look into that place.

Thanks EZ. I thought for sure I had read NAPA somewhere. :)

Thanks Huron, I think I will go with Clark craft but may look around. I'm just a tad south of Pontiac.

Re: 1978 16' Starcraft SuperSport Resto

OK I'm going to get ZC Thursday, so three cans of that. How much rusto primer and finish coat should I get? Gallon? Quart? I'm thinking gallon because I will do a couple coats, but don't want to get way too much. This is just for the base not the blue stripe I plan on doing later on.

I hate asking all these questions guys, I am so glad that there are so many of you to help. I'm going to paint this Saturday, so I really can't wait to see what happens.

Sorry for the triple post:facepalm:, but I actually took some pic's like I had said I would a long time ago. They are just cell pic's so sorry for the quality guys...

Port side sanded, paint here is still amazing so just a light sand.

Starboard side, same thing here I think I just put more effort into it.

Rivets for the transom brace done. I really like the look of new rivets .

And here is my "homemade" rivet set. Many thanks to DJ for all that help.

I bought the $15 air chisel from HF, could have went with the cheaper $10 but I wanted more bits incase I messed one up. It really works great! I just have the air turned down so it doesn't bump around all over the place. I would really suggest this to anyone who needs to do solid rivets on a budget. It's not a pro tool, but it gets the job done.

Nice work on the rivets, glad I was of some help. I can't wait to see that thing painted and right side up again.

I'm getting back into the groove again on mine and it seems like the Starcraft'ers have been coming out of the woodwork in the last week or so.

Re: 1978 16' Starcraft SuperSport Resto

Thanks EZ, and DJ I sure hope I can make it .
I'm going to get paint tomorrow, some things put it off for this week. I powerwashed the hull today. Lot's of stuff came off so I will sand again quick to remove any sharp ridges. If paint falls off on the bottom o well. I also know I won't be running fast enough to be like a powerwasher effect on the bottom.

I have also since decided to wait to paint till this next Thursday, predicting 57! :D yes! Much better to paint then I won't have to worry about heating. I need to get some other things done around the house this weekend as well, and watch some basketball.

Re: 1978 16' Starcraft SuperSport Resto

OK so I did something today... Found my camera and

Went shopping :D

IMG_8846.jpg

2 Quarts Rusto Primer
2 Quarts Rusto Gloss white
3 Cans Dupli color ZC
Spray gun from HF(bought earlier
Some epoxy to fill up dents
Mineral Spirits
Mixing cup

So I'm pretty much copying Jas on what he used on his Islander. Thanks for posting what you used! I will also go out and get the gloss blue when I am ready to paint the stripe, I'm thinking I will do that when she is back on the trailer and I can do the rest that needs to be blue.
I'll be finishing up prep this weekend, Thursday can't come soon enough!

I trust that it will work. I'll be the one to mess it up  I'm just very glad to have something to go off of for reference as to what to get. Appreciate the warning though :D :D.

I have a 1970 Sylvan 16' that is just about the same design as your starcraft. It will be nice to see your finished project. Mines fishing this summer, but going to redo it next fall. Keep up the good work.

Re: 1978 16' Starcraft SuperSport Resto

Thanks Oldschool, Welcome to the fourms, and aluminium boat club, lot's of great info around here! You're pretty much in the Starcraft club since the Sylvans were almost identical (I think). Also good to see you're from Michigan, lot's of Michiganders around here too. Make a thread with some pictures so we can see your boat :D.

I hope that I will have a finished boat sometime  it sure seems like I haven't gotten anywhere.
