Well I do love my F350 and the best thing is its paid for. I could not get a new one if my life depended on it, paying $45,000 for a new truck at least is crazy.

I agree. I would need a pretty good excuse for one. It is very nice that when things are paid for, then you can enjoy them more imo. Just like my boat. I could have went out and got a $40,000 ski boat. Yet, I am still a bottom feeder so that would never happen .

Well I just filled the truck up yesterday for the trip down to Minot to pick up the SS, and up here gas rings up at $4.9924 for a US gallon, ouch. Sounds like you have a busy weekend ahead of you.

Now I am. Actually I'm helping some family get there internet back up and it seems to be working fine. Excuses, excuses I know .

So I was up at 5am to work. Got home around 10. I figured out where my backers were going to go, and then took out the wood. Also found out that my last piece up at the bow will fit fine, I had to see how the old one went in.

Then I took everything out, and vacuumed out the hull one last time. Mixed up my Gluvit, and put it down . Went down fairly well, will probably need to go back over a few spots. I mixed up just a bit not the whole thing, and hopefully I mixed it right. It seemed to be hardening up near the end.

I'm very glad I went with a 1 to 1 (boatguy proof) epoxy :facepalm:.

So that's it for now. If I'm going to do anything else today I want to at least start getting a coat of epoxy on a piece of the deck. It's very nice out there guys!

Enough of slacking on iBoat's, there's stuff to do!

Here's what I got done today. A bit of a feeling of acomplishment. Just didn't want to go any further and mess things up.

Here is my backer so far. Anyone have any thoughts on this. I'm thinking it should be clear of anything, but have yet to attach it to the deck to find out. Does it look like it will be ok? It'll be attached to the deck, I was trying to figure out a good way to do this and this is what I came up with:facepalm:.

Got my first coat of epoxy on one of my pieces of the deck. It goes down nice, but does anyone have a better way to spread it? I used a brush, but maybe a foam roller or something else would be better and more efficient.

We've finally got nice weather . I need to get the boat done now! I'm ready to get on the water again.

I have found that heat is my best friend when it comes to laying down epoxy.

70 is better than 60. And, 80 is better than 70!

When I first started out I used nice (expensive) Purdy brushes. I figured out the brush doesn't matter, heat matters. Now I use super cheap chip brushes that come in packs of ten and lay it down when it's warm.

Sounds good! I'll go pick up some el-cheepo brushes when I go out and get a few things . Mother nature is helping with the heat area today it looks like. Thanks!

I'm with Jason on this one, all of our epoxy brushes are purchased at the dollar store since they are essentially one-time use only.

My epoxy has been slow-curing this spring also, I recently switched to propane heaters in the garage to cut the time down.

It's nice to be able to save time and money here and there.

Just went out and checked the epoxy, and Gluvit. Both are hard now, still a bit tacky but I think today they will harden up better.

Screwed my backers in for a quick test fit. They don't hit the ribs, heck my cuts don't even do anything I really don't even need them :facepalm:. I'll leave them the way they are, but I'm going to take off about an inch and a half so they are no where near the stringers. With my luck they will end up hitting, and I'll have to grind off some of it when I go to put it all in.

Today I want to at least get more epoxy on everything, and a leak check. If I get to it I'm going to cut out my transom.

My plan on the transom is I'm going to cut it out close, maybe leave an extra 2" around it. Bond it with epoxy, clamp it around the edges, and add a couple screws in the middle. I can then either take out the screws, and fill with epoxy, or just leave them in. Then once it is dry, come back and cut it out so it will fit drill my holes and then lay down a couple more coats of epoxy.
Still haven't decided on it all yet. Let me know if these ideas sound any good.

Transom cut into a rectangle, epoxy drying, leak check done. Overall productive day! I just coated the main parts of the transom board. I will bond these two together, but wanted to get them to get some epoxy first. I will also rough cut once the epoxy is dry. Weird way to do it all, I know .

For large panels, I like to use 6" plastic putty knives to spread the epoxy/resin. I just pour it on the panel then start spreading it around. Once it is mostly spread I use a brush to finish the edges. After a while you start to get a feel for how much goes how far.

That seems like a good idea as well. I wash pouring some on, and then brushing it around. When I go to get brushes, I'll get one of those.

I'm starting to get a feel for it. I got pumps with it so it makes it even easier for me .

Went out and got myself a HF rivet gun. I'll see how it holds up, heck it was $5 . Also got 5 .59 cent brushes, hopefully that will be enough. I guess I can always run out and get more.

Also got some PL Adhesive that I saw in friscoboaters Searay thread (same stuff exactly). I'm going to use this to put my deck pieces together, and glue them to the aluminum that goes across the stingers. If this seems like a bad idea let me know. I could use epoxy but at that stage I think it would run too much, and end up not going where I want it to.

Also got my backers epoxyed and screwed onto the deck. That piece also got another coat of epoxy. Then I got my transom boards another coat and then put them together and clamped. Also threw in some screws to make sure it was tight. I will take these out after it is dry and fill the holes up with epoxy. I may leave in a couple in the end, but this epoxy dries nice and hard (after like 5 days :facepalm. So I'm getting someplace!

For my bow piece I'm going to make a jig so I can drill holes and put in dowels. Then epoxy it all together. I'm planing on some aluminum behind it up there as well. This was the only piece of the whole deck that was really weak when I took it out.

I kinda like doing this epoxy, it's very relaxing in some ways. You become one with the wood! (I guess I'm going crazy now )
Right now I don't know if I would ever attempt a glass boat. Just watching the work in the videos that friscoboater posts has me half scared to death .

The one thing that I found my glasser good for besides giving me parts was testing out my sawzall, and it really liked that boat a lot.

Poor glasser I guess the sawzall did like it a lot. I've seen the pictures . They are good for relieving stress, I took a couple whacks on my old Imperial (I kinda miss it) before she got towed off by someone for the trailer. Wouldn't you know it, it was the same exact time and day the Starcraft arrived!

So another coat on a couple things tonight. Need to make a jig so I can drill for dowels to put the bow piece together still. Also need to keep rotating the pieces of deck so I can get all the edges covered nicely. Maybe this weekend I can get the deck in . Maybe!

Also cut out my transom! It really turned out great, and I think doing a rough area with epoxy clamping and then making it to size is the way to go. It turned out very nice and uniform. Need to sand it down at the top a bit, and get holes drilled. Then will coat that all with epoxy. I'm getting somewhere.

Also need to get pictures before you guys show up at my house with pitchforks .

Ok for the holes in the transom are they drilled at a 90 degree angle from the transom, or does that change to another angle? I'm just kind of confused if they have an angle to them or not before I really mess it up.

Ahh pictures . Pardon the cell pictures. I'd say it's about time I stop being lazy and use my Canon Rebel, but I don't want to get epoxy on it.

Transom cut out. Still needs sanding to get it just right and drill the holes. Like I asked above, how do I drill the holes. Are they 90 degrees to the transom or so some go different angles?

My first gallon of epoxy is almost used. I'd say I'm not going through it too fast, and I should be on track for finishing all the deck and transom with some left. Which I may keep untill I do something to the bow next winter. Everything turns out great with this stuff, and if there's an area I want sealed it's the underside.

And now some nice shots of epoxy drying.

Ahh forgot to add. The garage is a mess! It'll probably take a week to clean it all up.
