It looked like I was going to have to order them but thankfully I won't have to now. How do you like the 85 Johnson. How is it on fuel?

It looked like I was going to have to order them but thankfully I won't have to now. How do you like the 85 Johnson. How is it on fuel?

I like my 85hp...it pops out of the hole very quickly which is good to ski behind. As far as gas goes it seems to me that we ran WOT for about 2 hours on 6 gallons of fuel. That is with the total weight being about 2000 lbs. So I don't think that that is too bad because you don't hardly run continuously like that.

I decided to have a BBQ today. We are getting a snow storm tonight so I thought, Hmmm, BBQ. It's been a couple of months since I had one. And seeing that I can't work on my boat right now. The temperature is hovering at the freezing mark but the steaks are awesome. The best thing about barbecuing in December.... the beer gets colder in your glass. Cheers ya'll. I'm still keeping up on all your threads. Keeps me sane.

I decided to have a BBQ today. We are getting a snow storm tonight so I thought, Hmmm, BBQ. It's been a couple of months since I had one......

My weekend rant.......

Had another bbq. I woke up this morning to 10F and snow, and now it's 35F and raining. So I decided to have a little bbq in the rain. I even took pics so jb would believe me. I've been looking around for diffferent ideas for an outboard. The boat is rated for an 85hp. I haven't decided what to do. Go with an 85hp Johnson/Evinrude or stay with my 65 Merc and rebuild it. I'm looking at about 700 bucks to rebuild the power head. Now remember, this is Canada. Ain't nothing cheap here. I found a 70hp Merc with a working power trim but it too has a dead cylinder. I came across a 90hp Johnson but buddy says he doesn't know if the power trim is working. Hmmm. Also too, I'm having a hard time finding roll on gelcoat for under a 100 bucks a gallon for my deck. I'll have to ship some in.

A winter BBQ sounds great & sure looks tasty

I really love the vintage Mercs, but man are Johnson's easier in just about every way: parts, tools..... But electric shift, wow, what a total PITA. Unless it's in perfect working order..... I guess both companies made less then favorable decisions for us DIY boaters...

I won't go the electric shift way. It will be a bit newer than that. Electric shift just scares the tar out of me. The motors I'm looking at are late 70's, 80's. Not a lot of snow here. Not like other parts of Canada.

Winter BBQ looks yummy TC ! I got the gel for my deck from a local discount boat store . Marpro gel with wax . Is there a type made for just roll on ? I paid 70 bucks for a gal . Hope I got the right stuff .

There is a gelcoat for rolling or brushing on. I guess it levels quite nice. I'm not sure exactly what the difference is between the two, if any.

I used a neutral gel-coat for the deck of my boat from uscomposites, added grey pigment, and then surface wax to the last coat. How does that compare to the Gel coat you are planning to use?

I am partial to the 85HP Johnson for a motor for obvious reasons
