Hey tc...great job on the transom fit... Looks awesome... I am going to have to agree with jbc....looks like you got some old wood/glue remnants to grind away yet. I would lean towards getting rid of that to ensure a goog bond...

Have a great day!

Re: 1978 MFG Gypsy Rebuild

I had to leave about half an inch of the new plywood above the transom edge where the motor sits. The previous owner had work done and the cut it down about half and inch and filled it with resin only. We all know what happened to that. I wanted to leave a bit more but am afraid it would be too high and the top wouldn't fit back on. Any who, time will time. I can always fill with Woods' Fibreglass Peanut Butter . Hmm, that name would look good on a container. Then just add hardener.....Hmmm. :D:D

Uhhmmm it's not my Peanut Butter. OOPS is the one that came up with the recipe. I'm just a humble purveyor of his expertise. As for the clamps JB is correct. You tighten the lower bolt first to just snug on the top of the transom. Then Loosen the upper bolt which will close the lower portion of the jaws. Make it just past snug then tighten the lower, then the upper and so forth to get equal pressure across the jaws. Practice with em DRY and you'll quickly get the hang of it. An Air Ratchet makes it real easy and quick to adjust em.

Oops PB & Oops boat putty just don't have the same ring to it  Friscoboater's Pookie (pooky?) isn't any better

He who has the info & disseminates it, owns it ;)

Having the transom ply a tad high is better then too low. If the cap doesn't fit very good, trim it a little, cover it w/ CSM (maybe w/ 1708) & resin and then fill w/ a little PB. If too low, thick PB is the only real option, just like the PO's repair.

As before, transom ply looks great! Nice fitment too.

I fitted the transom by cutting my plywood to size then clamping it on the outside of the transom. I then traced the shape of the hull on it and then cut it out. I had to do a bit of cutting and measuring, but overall it came out pretty good.

No work done this weekend on the old Gypsy. We decided to take a drive to Peggy's Cove. I'm sure some of you know where this is. Anyone know about the Swiss Air 111 disaster, this is where it happened.

Just a few more pics. This is only about a half an hour from where I live.

This is the bay where Swiss Air 111 went down.

Thanks Wood, I appreciate that. I'm sure Okie has some great scenery as well. Do you get much fall foliage? I'm not sure what it's like down your way but it's only 8C (45f) today and windy. But that is the fall here. We will have warmer days and colder nights. We have had frost warnings already. The fall here is great, with all it's fall colours. The sucky thing is winter is right behind. Hopefully it won't be too bad this year. Last year was awesome.

Yeah, we're entering Fall as well. In Southeastern Okie Land in the Hilly Trees and mountains(kinda) we have some nice fall foliage, but there's nothing to compare with the ocean and the rocks. My Wife's DREAM vacation is to do a Fall Drive through Vermont and Maine to see the foliage and the covered bridges and then eat lobster on the Wharf in Maine. One of these years I'm gunna surprise her with that vacationi.:D

Well Wood, if your gonna come to Maine, keep on coming to Nova Scotia. There a tons of Americans here living in their summer cottages and we have tons of lobster, clams, steak, whatever you desire. And you will always have a place to stay. :D:D
