Nice score Mr tallCanadain!! Don't feel bad about the snow issues, we have some of the same problems even in the states. I store one of my boats 170 miles north of metro Detroit, and I cant get the garage door open up there, there is a 3 foot snow drift in front. The walleye's are biting, and my boat is buried.
Guess I will work on the one I have stored down here, it's not my fishing boat, but it is a boat.

Man, I hate those things. NO offense. It's one of those pet peeve things. I maybe ignorant here but if you got power trim, why the whale tails? I would go with trim tabs before anything. Just my Canadian nickels worth.

It's really frustrating for sure. It's a strange year. Cold, wet windy. Very out of the norm. But hey, I wake up every morning, I guess that's better..lol.

This weekend wasn't much of productive weekend as far as the boat goes. There was so much rain that the lawn was soft and wet. So I couldn't get it at it. However, I did build another engine stand. I'm no carpenter but this one is better than the last two that I built. I was able to get the Merc out of the truck and on to the stand. I was able to give it a good going over and see what's needed. I'm looking at taking the decals off and giving her a fresh coat of paint. The stand worked well. This time around I bought bigger wheels and I decide to make it a box style. Also instead of messing with the angle of the legs, I decided to leave them straight and cut the top part of the legs to the angle for the motor. I went 15 degrees but I think 10 degrees would have sufficed.

Yes good looking engine stand!! I hope that the weather straightens out for you. If it is any consolation the weather in So Illinois hasn't been the greatest either.

Well, not much going on here. Boat is still in dry dock. Everything else is soaked. I have decided to get the motor painted. My Lady bug's father use to paint cars back in the day and I heard he did great work. He is always looking for projects to do and jokingly I told him he could paint my motor. Well I got these pictures tonight. I am very pleased and excited to have this done. I just ordered a decal kit for it and she will look great when it's done. It feels like Christmas. I am going out next weekend. It's a long weekend here for us and I took a couple of extra days off so I should get a nice bit done. I ordered a floatation foam kit from U.S Composites. How sad is it that I have to get this stuff in Florida and be cheaper than to buy it here. They want 175.00 here for the gallon kit and I am getting it to my door for 120 from Florida. I'm hoping to get the transom glassed and the stringers in. Hopefully the rain has gone for a bit. I'm starting to get moldy. :faint2: Anyway I hope you are having better luck than me with this boat building stuff. :mad-new:

Okay, so I ran into a snag today. After a closer look at the top sitting on the hull, I noticed that there was quite a gap at the bow and that it was a tight fit at the transom. So tight in fact that if I glassed the transom that the top would not go back on. Hmmm. Is my transom too thick? Of course it is. So after some pondering and thinking, I decided to cut the transom 1/2" thinner. I climbed in the boat and drew an outline on the transom of the splash pan. Using a router I cut along the line the 1/2" in depth, then using a wood chisel I cut the layer down which didn't take too long. The trouble then was the roughness that was exposed. So a bit of sanding, and more sanding I got it pretty smooth. Before I started using resin I fitted the top again and seems to sit in very nice with enough space for fiberglass. Then using some peanut butter, I put a thin layer on to smooth it out. Turned out good.






Now, another problem I have is that the resin is just not setting up. I know I spoke of this before. It an 946ml container, I used 10ml of hardener. Mixed it well. It's been hours now and it's still very wet. Maybe it's the humidity, I don't know. I will see in the morning what's up. It's crazy frustrating.
