Yeah, well I restored my old metal tanks and they were filled with debris and the pickup tube screen was BAD. I Pull the tube each season and clean the screen and flush the tank with a piece of chain and Boiling water and dish soap and I still get crap out of it.!!!!! Hopefully in a couple of years it'll be clean!!! Any whoo here's and Evil Bay Link for the filter.

So i went for another rip tonight. I replaced the fuel line last night and put it on muffs for a few minutes. I had a bit more debris on the strainer. I cleaned it up and tonight she worked perfect, until the end. It started to stumbled when I gave it gas then would stall. Eventually it died again. I haven't look but it acted the same way so I know I have more debris. It must be coming from the fuel hose on the take. So I will have to pick up another hose.
Again I couldn't get to WOT because I experienced prop spin again. I'm not sure what's up with that. I will have to investigate further. I will have to try putting it down one hole. Not sure why I'm losing traction..lol.
She looks good though.

I've said it many times...I ain't no Mek-a-Nek sooo can't help much. I do know enuf that water in the fuel is usually a head issue. I was fortunate enuf to get my 85 Johnson running well at the end of the season and I'm looking forward to the start of next season. I wish you well with your motor issues.
What year is that 650?
Edit: Nevermind, I see you have a 76 which is darn near the same as my 75. I'm not exactly sure what your symptoms are but if you are getting water in the cylinder, it's coming from one of two places (or both). There is a baffle plate and an exhaust plate on the port side of the motor. The gaskets can leak. Getting them off can be a bear but I have done it so if you need help, let me know.
Also, the lower seals can leak. Sounds like you are planning to pull the powerhead anyway so if you do, go ahead and replace those seals. While your in there, check your lower bearing. If it's bad, replace it too. I have done this as well and can help you out if you need it.
Outside of that, have you performed a compression test?
