Great progress Charlie!! Painted up by days end??

LOL, I doubt that. Got a little prep work first. And I need to decide on color, I'm thinking just like my avatar but a gray instead of the white.

Charlie, that's exactly what I'm leaning towards at the moment for my SS. Blue stripe/trim with a light grey base coat.:)

You've gotten all the rotten work done. Now on to the nice clean rebuild.

Re: 1978 Starcraft Holiday 18 Rebirth

Took the wire wheel and cleaned the old caulking stuff out and then recaulked with 5200 today, I was planning on getting some more done but after giving the 3M a couple hours I went to see if it had skimmed over and it was wet as when I put it on, looked at the tube and it takes 48hrs till its not tacky . Wanted to hit the boat with a sanding block but didnt want all the junk stuck in the 5200. Oh well.

Had my first mate outside doing a little sanding on the trailer. I think she is getting impatient and wants to go fishing.

I see you put the little one on the worst job of them all, prepping the trailer. Ugh.

Yeah once you put some 5200 on, you pretty much killed the week. Great stuff but takes a long time to fully cure.

Re: 1978 Starcraft Holiday 18 Rebirth

In the past I used the seasense brand from Wally world. It worked good but it only came in a squeeze tube that was a pain. This is worth the wait for the caulk gun tube. I was looking at some parts catalogs last night and I seen a fast cure 5200, I probably ordered the slow stuf, kinda like me. Lol

She is a trooper, she got bored with it after 5 or 10 minutes, but I take all the help I can get. I tried talking the wife into making a craft project out of it but she wasnt convinced. She said something about it being my mess. :D

The boat in your avatar actually has some sort of white paint with a little blue mixed I think.

Tough to duplicate since you wouldn't know how many smurfs to mix in with the paint to get the right shade of blue:D

I've used the fast-cure 5200 before and I like it. Great for when your buddies call and want to head out but the transom is not assembled yet:)

Havent updated in awhile, just been preping for paint and waiting on 5200 to dry . Color has been decided on.

Going to do the stripes and topside in a blue with a slight chance of black, trailer is going to be white.

Re: 1978 Starcraft Holiday 18 Rebirth

Since ol ma nature is being a total pain in the butt Im left with buying boat stuff (shucks :D), the retail therapy helps dull the pain of seeing snow falling mid April.

IMG_4672.jpg

All this time waiting for the temps to warm up has me second guessing my paint color, wondering if the dark gray is going to be depressing . Was thinking maybe I should mix one can of the gray with two whites and make a lighter gray, def want a gray, just not sure if I want it that dark. Opinions?

Wow! It wasnt raining or snowing today, I actually got to work on something for a little while. Got all the old rollers taken off the trailer, it was forward progress atleast. Now if it would get above 40 deg. I might be able to slap some paint on.

Looking forward to seeing how your paint comes out! I like the color choice. Are you planning on keeping the stripe, or going to go with something more modern looking?

I can't beleive this weather though. Snow in mid-April? Can't the weather just cooperate and let us all work on our boats? :D

Re: 1978 Starcraft Holiday 18 Rebirth

Made some good use of the weather today and got some work done on the trailer.

Had some help sanding today, this didnt last very long, it quickly turned into grab dads tools and pretend to take bolts off or bang them against the trailer.

Took the wire wheel and hand sander over everything and then hit most of it with Rusto anti stop rust primer or whatever it is.

Got just about one coat on everything before having to call it quits, my workers wanted to eat lunch.

Indeed, was nice just to let the kids run wild in the backyard for a change. Hope it only improves from here on out. Wouldnt mind slapping some paint on this weekend!!!!!

Glad to see you made some progress on the one sunny day of the year:rolleyes: Nice to see the kids helping out reminds me of when mine were young enough to think the old mans projects were fun ( for a few minutes:D).
