Re: 1978 Starcraft Holiday 18 Rebirth

Been dodging more raindrops the last few days. Trailer is all painted and I have all the new rollers on. Working on the new bunks now.

Youd have to probably look at my first pictures to see them but now that the trailer is looking all purdy the black steel wheels needed to go and I wasnt about to go the hubcap route :D, anyways..... was searching around on eBay today, found a pair of 13inch white spoke trailer rims for $31 delivered ($31 for two ). They had other sizes, sounds like most have some cosmetic blem but nothing serious...... can search for this to find em.

13X4.5 5/4.5 White Spoke trailer Camper Wheel / Rim

Rims got delivered.......

Ahhhh, Rustoleum fumes. :D Finally after all this waiting on stuborn ma nature I got some paint down.

The gray is the color I ended up doing on the entire boat, Its two quarts of Gloss white and one quart of smoke gray rustoleum pro mixed together, then its going to have the factory stripes like my avatar in blue. I also added a little Majic hadner to the paint, figured it cant hurt if it speeds up the dry time and makes it tougher. http://www.majicpaints.com/detail.asp?product_number=8-0950

Man that paint job looks beautiful! Super sharp! So I'm not seeing any sprayers or rollers, ya just brush it on?

Excellent bro!!:D:D:D

Thank Jason, its coming along. I did roll it on with a 6" foam job and then hit it with the brush.

Re: 1978 Starcraft Holiday 18 Rebirth

Quick trailer wiring question/confirmation. I had to put a new plug on my trailer cause the other one was too short. I got a new plug for it. The new plug has 4 wires coming out of it. Brown, yellow, green, and white. The old plug had.... two brown, yellow, green and white. I figured the two brown wires coming out of the trailer could be tied together and connected to the one brown on the new plug. Was that a correct assumption?

What you have is a split harness, having a brown wire going down each side. The brown wire should be for the tail and marker lights on the trailer. So yes they should be able to be connected together provided the trialer is wired correctly.

Re: 1978 Starcraft Holiday 18 Rebirth

Thanks for all the paint compliments guys. So far so good, but its very far from perfect, good enough for the fish.

Been working on the trailer some more while paint has been drying. Trailer is pretty much done except for needing to swap the tires to the new wheels and will need to go over the bearings at that time. Once I have these kids all trained we'll be able to redo three boats a year Im thinking. ;) I helped em out with the bolt on the front of the bunk and they went right after tha back one on their own, I just had to tighten it all the way up.

That trailer is looking great, nice work. I am looking forward to being done working on trailers in a few more weeks:D

The paint seems to have turned out great, I'm thinking about using a roller instead of spraying myself so I can do it in the driveway. Not dealing with overspray has got to be a big advantage.

Re: 1978 Starcraft Holiday 18 Rebirth

Stripes went on today. Did another fingernail scratch test on the bottom of the boat today, couldnt get the paint to lift no matter how hard I pushed in.

Template stuck on (thanks for the help boatguy)

Used the template as a guide for masking. Used some green automotive masking tape by 3M, stuff was pretty sticky but it came of clean and didnt bleed through on the edges.

Paint going on. Marine Rusto in navy blue, lightened it up with the gray color a little and added the Majic hardner.

Results.
