Re: 1979 Imperial

Hey Gang,

Jackson Lee had surgery Tuesday, so I'm home with him chillin... He had a medial luxating patella, commonly called a trick knee. Anyhow surgery was 100% and now to keep a 1 yr old mix relaxed for 12 weeks of recovery! Good times!

Anyhow...

A few pics and more to come this afternoon...

My dust filter fan works awesome inside the boat while grinding!

That filter fan is a good idea. I'm sure it doesn't get it all but it probably makes a huge difference. Glad to hear Jackson is doing well :)

Tip: Wrap a 3m Scotch Brite pad around the Grinder Air vents with a rubber band and you will increase their life 100%

Have you thought about the Vac Box idea and the grinder attachment? It works pretty well

Great idea on scotch pad I'll try it. I thought about the vac-box, and regret not doing it... But I'm very close to the end of doom....

Resin discs are the way! I'm using 28 grit. Flapper is to rough up areas to be glassed... 36 grit... I also find the cupped brush on my grinder to be helpful in removing old carpet glue, and foam residue...

Yeah, that's what I use to. I use 24 grit from HF and they cut glass like butter. I've used the flappers from lowes 36# and UHHHMMM Not so Much!!!!

I am reading that resin disks are the way to go. I have found some at Harbor Freight that are 5". Can you use them on a 4.5" grinder? I am assuming I would need a backing plate also correct??

Thanks

Re: 1979 Imperial

HF has 4.5 too! I get em there all the time. Not sure if the 5" will work on a 4 1/2" grinder, I THINK they will. and Yep you need a backup pad.

Re: 1979 Imperial

Well I can't possibly take anymore DOOM today...

I'd say I'm at ~ 90% complete with my demo grinding... I'll spend a few hours on Saturday, then clean interior with MEK and Acetone... Remove a few pound of dust from the garage with leaf blower... Then flip hull for repair and gel-coat...

I did notice a few places will need reinforcement... I can see the gel from the inside... I may have gone a tad wild with the 24 grit....

Progress!

Re: 1979 Imperial

I am not a big fan of better living through chemistry, but I can tell you that a little benedryl goes along way in keeping a good dog a down......... Our dog, Majic, twisted a 'knee' at a Las Vegas dog park. His hind leg was bandaged up like a chicken wing, and the vet suggested a whole benedryl 2X/day 1 am & 1 pm. He was 75+lbs & 3.5yrs old at that point. We went from 4-5 2hr+ dog park visits a week to none for 6wks. And only short walks for quite awhile after his leg was unwrapped. He'd have been bonkers when I got home from work w/out the benedryl. Check w/ JL's vet 1st, esp if he's on anti-inflammation/infection drugs.

And now back to our regularly scheduled program: Tear down & pending put back of a 1979 Imperial:

The work up to now looks really good. Nice job, & JL will certainly help you adjust to your new solo status. The yellow certainly gets my vote...... Looking forward to seeing you get the stringers back in & under a deck!:)

We'll send good thoughts JL's way til he's 100% again
