Love the dog....

As Norm says on Cheers, "women, can't live 'em - pass the beer nuts." (not making light, just trying to cheer ya up brother).

Also, that dust tent is cool - I would invest in a 7" grinder if you don't have one... I went the 4.5 route and regretted it... (took way too long and burned through a ton of those sanding discs). Hang in there... I know that this boat will be a very good medicine.... You will probably look back on this project and say, man, that little boat project really helped me through a difficult period.

I am really sorry to about your troubles Bear. I hope that things work out for you!!

Good luck with that grinding.

Thanks Glenn!

Brother Bear,

I hadn't stopped by in a few and I am Impressed! You are crankin it out, Man!

The tearout is almost done, the cradle looks solid, and the dust dome is eerily disturbing and familiar...

Best of Luck keeping the grinding to a minimum...yeah right:eek:

Hope your troubles pass quickly and your future continues to brighten...

Regards,
Gus

PS-Jackson Lee is one handsome lookin family member...Bless his waggy tail!:D

Thanks Gus!

like the dust tent, that should minimize your mess...sorry to hear about the lady friend, but whats meant to be will be, how cliche! I have your dogs brutha over here...I always say take my wife...but leave mah dog alone!

That's where Jacksons long lost brutha is!

Love the dog....

Morning brethren!

Progress......... Transom is out! That was some good times...

My bud T$ stopped by last night... We had a few beers in the garage, talked about life, and the boat.... I picked up a hammer and pry-bar and slowly chipped away at the transom... Two of my neighbors were shoveling their walks, heard my hammering in the garage, and decided to pay a visit also.... It was a good night!

I like the dust tent also...I think that I am going to fashion something similar so that after I am finished grinding I could still use it with my tarp. So that when it rains it will tent water off of the boat. Also I don't care for the weight of the tarp being directly on the windshield.

Edit: I guess we posted at the same time lol. Nice work on the transom, it looks like you are ready for a new one now :)

Getting that transom out is a big progress point....good work... Was it tough to get out, or was it mostly rot?

Sorry to hear about your personal troubles Bear, but you've got your dog and you've got your boat, so there's hope. Besides, boats are total chick magnets :) Can't wait to follow your progress, but who knows, after your done with all the grinding etc...you'll be converted to the dark side and get a tin boat ;) We fix most problems on them with hammers and spray paint (very sophisticated stuff) :) Keep us posted on your progress.

Hey Glenn,

If you use the PVC I would go bigger than 1/2"... I'm using light plastic, and the frame starts to flex...

I'll remove the center stringer next and start grinding this weekend. I need to purchase my wood ASAP!

Actually the transom was tough... I basically removed a layer at a time... I nociced if I tried to pry thick sections, I risked cracking the gel-coat...

Thanks for the words of encouragement brutha, I also see a tin boat in my future! I like hammers and spray paint!

Thanks boss! It does suck, but each day is a bit easier, plus having good friends, family, and this forum really helps!

I am very sorry about the break up my friend. Chin up.

Chin is up my brutha! Been reviewing all the SeaRay videos.... Your restoration is going to be a great help with my project! Thanks again for such awesome documentation Jay!

Re: 1979 Imperial

Morning gang,

So my plan is in the next two weeks, have the keel stringer removed, and all the interior grinding finished. Then I can flip the boat, repair the keel damage, and gel-coat whats needed...

During this time I'll purchase my wood, and glassin supplies...

I'm thinking 3/4" for my stringers, and either 1/2" or 5/8" for deck.

For the transom I'll use two pieces of 3/4" ply... It should be strong enough, I could put a 90 on her if I ever wanted...

Thanks for the tip...I am planning on going tomorrow to purchase some PVC and get my framework built...suppose to be only 35 degrees here but 55 on Sunday :)

Re: 1979 Imperial

Happy weekend!

I've managed to remove my keel stringer, and all the wood around the lip perimeter of the old deck. I used a cut-off wheel on my 4.5" grinder, my sawzall, and various hammer type smashing tools... What a fun smoke and dust filled joy! But closer to the goal! My lame painters tyvek suit is toasted. looks like I need the XXX large variety!
