Thanks Craig,

I'm lovin the Yellow also!

I hope so boss, cash may be the limiting time factor.... As always I'll be over budget... Still the boat will be better than anything used for the same cost... Maybe if I beef up the structure and transom I could put a 90 on her? See what I mean.....

Hey BigLee! Thanks for stopping by! I too hope the build helps you out... I've got no issues with being the Guinea pig! Do you plan on documenting your build on iboats?

Morning Gang,

Today I plan on rebuilding the dolly supports. Hopefully they'll be dual-purpose and support the boat right side up, and flipped. How important is it that the boat is level to the ground when building the decks?

I'm stalled until I receive my US composites order for keel repair, so I may flip the boat back over to start on grinding!..

I purchased some PVC to make a dust tent, to try and keep as much inside the boat while grinding. I love grinding!

Brutha Kev! Someday I'll do a tinny, I was looking for one and this pile of glass ended up in my garage! Glad you could swing by dude! Happy New Year!!!!!!!!!

Boss,

I need to tell myself how much I love grinding, to keep motivated... Yes I'm sick!

I'm using 4.5" grinder with 36 grit resin disc's, on rubber pad like you said. Also have flapper disc's, and high speed cutting tool with spiral burr bit like drewpster used....

Great! You're ready to go. Do you have a good shop vac. If so you can rig a semi dust collector on your grinder to help with the dust.

That's going to be one slick custom boat when you're done. It's always nice when you find one that's been looked after so you don't have to go right down to the bare hull :)

........ I love grinding!

Again, I'm learning on the job, but the advice is free so you get what you pay for.... If your original deck was level (I seem to recall there may have been an issue there), you could keep a bit of the lip where ur prior deck was tabbed into the transom and use that as a reference point. Pm me or ring me if you want to talk through it.

As to the love of grinding, you ain't right bro!

Re: 1979 Imperial

When I built my cradle on top of the flipped hull, I allowed the "bunks" to fall where they were and leveled the legs/casters, when it sits in the cradle it sits at its natural shape, Built the new deck to match existing lines, so by all rights it should be good, or we hope so anyways lol

WOW! You are moving right along there, and I know what you mean about having to stay motivated. I tried that attachment for my grinder as Wood indicated, and it worked ok. The problem what I found was that the filter got clogged easy. Now there is a thing you can get for your shop vac that I think is called a dust buster. It traps the dust before it gets to the filter.

Great idea Wood! I'll be trying that this week I think.

Agreed! This and the pvc tent I'm building should help keep the dust down... Thanks for stopping by Craig and boatnut!

Hey Sprintst... Thanks for checking things out... Actually I'm down to the bare hull....

I think I've got the master plan and will update ASAP... I'll give you a call so we can rap about it... I'll be raising the seating middle deck up ~ 1"

I actually started to modify my new cradle on the boat while it was flipped... Thanks JDA!

Re: 1979 Imperial

Hey Gang,

Nothing to exciting over the weekend.

I did manage to re-design my dolly supports into a cradle system. I’m currently still working on the outer support bunks, but the inner supports are finished. Now I can have the boat upside down supported by two 2”x 6”x 7’ supports at the ends of the cradle. (not shown in pics) I can also flip the boat right side up and the hull is then supported by the bunks.

The first thing I did was to tie all the cart bottoms together so I could use a bunk style support system…

I then placed the cradle on the hull using keel supports and shims to keep it from rolling off... Then using a level making sure the hull sit correctly on the bunks.

Tonight I’ll flip the boat and place right side up so I can finish the outer bunk supports, then construct my dust tent for grinding joy!

After she’s all ground down, my supplies for the keel repair should be in hand… I’ll flip her again to finish the bottom repair, and then I can start fabricating the stringers, bulkhead, and deck layouts…

Re: 1979 Imperial

Cradle looks good. I bet that was pretty time consuming trying to get all the angles and such to line up but well worth it for the extra support.
