Re: 1979 Imperial

Hey brutha!

We'll I'm waiting for some coin from the taxman for supplies... like itchy glassin stuff! Also doing a ton of reading iboats threads, and researching parts/supplies... Just not much I thought was interesting enough to post.... But since you asked Beuller is in the house!

I've put the cap back on temporarily to help determine bulkhead placement, and deck heights. Plus I wanted to double check cap on hull measurements before I do any glassing of the deck.

Spending hours in and out of the boat dreamin bulkheads, stringers, decks and deck coatings, compartment layout for fuel, foam, bilge, drainage, battery placement, electrical system, stereo, on and on.... man thats some thinkin.....! Yes I over think most things...... See master plan pic!

Jackson is doin well... He's being quite the sport for a 1 year old that would rather be at the dog park than being told to " lay down... Good boy..." for the millionth time in a day... See goofy scar on leg pic....

I did manage to make my transom template!

With luck I should be cutting some wood and glassing soon!

Hey, unless JL is going to be sitting in the port helm seat, are you sure you wouldn't rather but the batteries up there to balance the captains weight?

Ya know, it just doesn't track as well on a glass build. Confusing battery location permutations & calculations are best left in a tin thread.:)

There, you see what you have started...I hope you are proud of yourself...I am..Heeheehee

I'm thinking little Hot-air ballons for each of the batteries, that way they don't affect the weight of the boat in any way and don't take up valuable deck space...

Man... All that math gave me a headache. I remember banging my head against the wall trying to figure out the tech height. I looks like you are coming right along.

Said it before, probably say it again:

Outriggers & sponsons for gas & batteries.........:D

Deck height prep looks good too. I'm glad it won't be nearly that complex when I go to putting mine back together.

Ahh... Activity on the imperial thread... all is right in the world again.

Glad to see you are still at it... Glad the pup is doing good too..

Played hooky this morning and went out to the shop... Nice walking into work at 2:00. I guess I will tell everyone I "had a meeting"

Re: 1979 Imperial

Morning gang!

Some forward motion yesterday, and most likely today...

Yesterday I managed to get my 2 x 4 x 4' clamps drilled in preparation for laminating the transom. I still need to cut my threaded all into 16" sections.

I also finally cut some ply! both 3/4" pieces are cut for the transom! I'll laminate them today and let cure, then sand where the edges don't completely match or line up, and most likely use a router to round some of the edges before I glass... I should be making my glass order this week. I decided to go with Express Composites due t location/lower shipping costs http://www.expresscomposites.com/ very nice family run outfit recommended by a local boat builder.

Re: 1979 Imperial

Good looking transom pcs! Hope the glue up goes great today!

Just a note, if it'll be a while til you use the 2X4 clamps. Rack'em & clamp 'em to keep them from warping on you. And you can seal the end grain to some degree w/ whatever you're using to laminate the plywood: mixed poly resin, PL, TiteBond3. Sealing the ends will help keep the warp, twist & bends to a minimum. If you do any rough lumber work, the 'wax' stuff the lumber mills use. But anything will be better then nothing.Duh, LOOKING, not LUCKING! ?!?!?

Good looking transom you have there Bear!!

Thanks for the link that should be very helpful.

I have my grinding 98% complete, but I will probably just scuff the remain area with sandpaper. At least I am done with the grinder :)

Sweet!

Make sure to put something @ to keep it from tipping over. Looks great. PL takes for ever to fully cure. give it plenty of time before you pop the clamps.

Congrats. 1 step closer!
Bear, I'm still looking for the details about how you re-wired the dog!
:eek::D
Sorry Trooper, I kid because we like you!
