Re: 1979 Imperial

Thanks again for all the nice comments!

Now onto business.... It's time to ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I placed my order at Express Composites today! http://www.expresscomposites.com/

Family run business, very knowledgeable in regards to boat building.... They said they'll ship today, I should see my order Monday! Now that's fast!

25 yards 1.5 oz x 50" CSM
25 yards of 1708 x 50"
2 gallons cabosil
2 gallons 1/4" CSM
1 gallon glass spheres
15 gallons general purpose polyester resin
32 oz. MEKP-9
40, 32 oz. mixing cups plastic
40, 16 oz mixing cups plastic
100 paint mix sticks
20, 2" chip brushes
4 gallon pour foam kit.
laminating roller

The owner asked me how much horsepower I'm running, and I told him 70.... He was curious due to the added weight from my modifications.... Do you cats feel the 70 will be enough? With the added strength of my transom, I guess I could run for a season, and always put a bigger motor on... Like a 90 E-tec..... That is if I win the lottery!
:D

Thats looks like a good amount of stuff there, and I bet you will be right on the money.

As far as the motor is concerned, I really do not think it will make much difference. Stick with the 70.

Re: 1979 Imperial

Hey gang,

I managed to get my glass roll holder made... Nothing special, but it will hold two 25 yard rolls of glass... My supplies should be here tomorrow...

Imperial%252021JAN2012%2520069.jpg

I also spent time messing with deck heights, and have made 90% of my decisions on fuel, battery, and storage compartment layout.

I also trimmed some of the factory cap where I plan on having the main deck to bow casting deck bulkhead meet. First I used a 2 x 6 to connect both sides of the DC and level from port to star..... This will serve three fold by keeping the structure sound when moving the cap, integrate DC's into new casting deck bulkhead configuration, and serve as a point to hang and scribe my keel stringer.

before trimming consoles

After trimming consoles pic... Note: Both consoles will rest upon, and at the height the bow casting deck and bulkhead. I'll cut and glass 1/2" or possibly 1/4" ply from the consoles down to the deck... Basically where the old walkway to the bow once existed...

you can sorta see the 2 x 6 " console support top right of this pic...

That rack looks familiar... :D The real fun is about to begin... I really enjoyed the fiberglassing part... umm except for the tight bow parts. It gave me a feeling of accomplishment. Now when it was 107 out... I was not having fun.

Hey frisco ..... when it was 107 out and you were in your "tarp tent" with your fan blowing it may not have been fun but you sure made it look easy. I know a lot of us newbie's learned quite a bit from you .... I certainly did and want to thank you for that.

bear ...... Your moving right along and the work looks great ..... keep up the good job.

What kind of mix ratio are you running with that Miller and Cabosil anyway? I see it's "Lite" so it's prolly pretty thin (watery), eh:confused:

(I just don't get glassen:redface:)

Miller and Korbel brandy! More brandy sold in Wisconsin than any other state in the US...

(I just don't get glassen)

A ratio of 99.5 : 1 Miller to Cabosil..... So yes very thin!

How to mix MILLER LITE RESIN

Ingredients

1 Can MILLER LITE
1 Bag Peanuts
1 Hard Boiled Egg
1 Bag Chips
Plastic Mixing cup

Recipe:
Eat peanuts, Drink Miller Lite, Eat Egg, Drink Miller Lite, Eat Chips. Drink Miller Lite
Whizz in cup
Pour cup in back of Tin Boat
Start Glassin FIBERGLASS Boat!!!!

This is my official WOG resin recipe!

Yep, ^^^^ and somewhere between the eggs and chips should be a good belch ! Gotta make room for more beer ya know.

Especially if it's a pickled egg! Gas out the other end ain't so good either!

Man, I can't believe to paid for shipping on that Miller High Life...you coulda just picked it up at the local quickie stop

Free case of Miller with each order boss!!!!! See what the tinny folks are missin!

Whooo hooo! Let the fun begin.

good times ahead brutha!

"bumpdate" (as in, bump for an update)... You got all these goodies...u got ur hands dirty yet?

Was gonna last night but I think I tossed my respirator by accident! Must be all the Miller resin?????? I going to start practicing small repair sections inside the hull, and reinforcing some thin spots per my conversations with oops...... This way I can get a feel for volume of resin used during layups, and not worry about how it looks... Also going to make some small batches of practice PB...

now if that doesn't sound like an iboats-harmony tag line i do not know what is. That you should copyright and add to your sig........

Very phunny my brutha rrumba!

:cool::facepalm:

;)

I gonna lay some glass tonight! Maybe CSM the transom.... I'll keep y'all posted!
