Re: 1979 Sea Nymph FM 161 resto

Small update.

Saturday was relatively nice day, some sunshine, mid 30's, brought boat back home and did some platform and deck fitting.

A good friend of mine who did some wood boat building a while back recommended using a "Joggle Stick". He gave it to me with some instructions and I googled it for further insight. Interesting such an inexpensive straightforward tool can be so useful.

I searched through Iboats and couldnt get a hit on it...which thought curious.

Anyway, if you dont have an old template and especially have something to copy with a lot of insets, angles, corners this is way to go.

Used it on foreward platform and came out good. My pattern board was bad choice, the cedar was too soft and should have painted it white so marks showed up better but live and learn eh.

Sunday wasnt quite so nice, gray skies, high of 26 and forecast wasnt nice for here let alone a lot of the country.

Took the boat back to storage. Woke up today and of course just some more of the same ole same ole.

Starting to feel like I am jinxing this weather thing just by working on boat outside......

very wet, heart attack stuff

Nice work... The joggle stick appears to be a fancier version of a "scribe tool" that some of us on here have used from time to time (mine was a pointed dowel with a pencil shoved through a drill hole)...

sorry about the snow... Ready for March to "go out like a lamb"

Now that's determination, to keep plugging along on what you can even when the forces of nature spit in your eye. Spring has sprung here, stable warm weather. I will wish some your way.

Oh yeah that's some nice looking ply, it always scares me to start cutting it, I have this fear in the back of my head I screwed up the measurements.

Thanks for the drive by. I have seen the "scribe tool" you refer too in yours and others threads. Had to give this joggler thingy a try though. I want to use it a few more times to get a better feel and will post up results....cant have too much info eh.

Just me crying the blues. majority of country / Iboaters in same situation. Funny though, the southern boyz dont hesitate to jump in on nice weather yet dont ever hear about love bugs, red ants, insects, red tide....

Thanks for efforts on weather. Looks like you may have had some influence for this neck of the woods.

Yup, the short hairs stand straight up when I hit the power switch on the saw....

Re: 1979 Sea Nymph FM 161 resto

Small update but sure feels good:

There is a common theme among all the resto's as one of the benefits is knowing your efforts will produce something better than original. Whether towing a tuber or throwing a lure not a bad feeling to know what is under your butt eh.

Those u-bolt tie downs on the transom or on bow are nice but the crapola washers provided are just that...thin, and non funtional. I noticed when taking mine off trans. how they dented into wood and as we have all learned, that just lets the good ole H20 in to interior of wood.

So, stopped in shop and saw the shop super again....he smiled and said what is it now. Again, he is a boater and really good fellow so he has interest in what might work on his boat also.

Showed him the samples, described the problem...he says thats it, nothing else ? Jus for now my man, just for now.

Hey I need a couple of those for my stern eyes! I'm sure you saw in my thread how I fixed my bow eye problem.

SG your lucky to have the resources to come through on your little details like that. Oh and spring has sprung here big time, I'm going to have to fire up my irrigation this weekend, it's getting dry!

Not sure what happened but Saturday was mid to upper 50's, sunshine, small breeze. Hope all the neighbors, MI, IN, PA, NY, Il and the Canucks acroos the lake are getting the same thing.

Brought boat back to get deck finished cutting, dry fit and some sanding done.

Be careful viewing these pics, they may be bright for so much sunshine. maybe some cool shades eh

Wow...deck going in...nice!

Wish I had seen this before I installed my transom eyes... Feeling a bit inadequate right now!

Looking good! Sea nymph gang is rocking and rolling!

Good lord, what kind of sick April fools joke is that?

Sorry to say but it's been in the mid 70's here in my clearing in the sticks and having to run my irrigation now.

Been a balmy 30 ish here in Michigan. I feel your pain bro. My outdoor workshop is unsuitable for epoxy, gluvit paint....... I'm thinking Sea Nymph was a Norse Goddess of ice. Can't snow forever, hang in there.

I am over the funk and certainly no reason to feel bad about 70's. I do have to say though that after watching your resto for some time now I am on to your code words. "Irrigation" = how long you hold that tap open on cold German beer.
