Did I miss the pics of your hull crack patch repair? I'm guessing it passed the torrential downpour leak test.

Awesome looking wood you got SG, I really like the nice grain. Little less time consuming than the route I took, 2 weeks to prime, paint and spar, then having to wait until dry between coats. Seeing that look you have gives me the idea of what I very well may do on the old Chief's bulkheads on the cuddy and seat boxes.

Sure hope things dry out for you soon, enough of the depressing weather. It's time for some sun and SN resto!

Well, well. Van returns from the GWN fishing adventure.

I cruised by your thread and no update. Hope you can find a moment to post some trip details before you get back into the boats and wife thing. How in the world you going to find time to fish ?

Welcome back, will be watching your thread along with many others.

Thanks SG! Good to be back..well not really...but no choice! Cant fish forever.

Got a tad more done on the SN. Got a couple pics of the trip up. Not sure how I find time to fish honestly.

Well, I thought you missed it but looks like I missed it.

It passed the downpour test but full blown soak is coming up.

The epoxy route went well. I was able to get 3 coats on one side in one day. Dont have to wait till dry for recoat, think it called a chemical bond. No sanding until after final coat. Also used West system 105 / 207 which has UV filters in it. Pricey but they are around the corner so no freight.

Sure hope things dry out for you soon, enough of the depressing weather. It's time for some sun and SN resto!

You have sent your heat to Ohio. It is smoking.

Did some dry fitting for covers to boxes.

Then started thinking that locker on port side sure takes up a lot of semi-usefull/less room. Hmmm. If I take it out sure opens up midship.

I think it is toast.

Did some clean up of hull and needed to hustle as morning sun would be coming over roof soon.

Just barely made it and that is no fun jumping around inside hull.

I dont know if this pic shows it well, but the sun was intense, over 90 today. Thinkin H2o sent their heat back east eh.

Re: 1979 Sea Nymph FM 161 resto

Busy day,

Got another coat of varnish on:

Also did some painting on deck. Got an interlux no skid compound and it says can pour in can of paint or can apply manually. If by hand they suggest a flour sifter...................what ? So I open small can and yup, it is about as fine as flour, so no brainer, dump it in paint, stir, let it sit to soak up paint and we are off.

I will say it is good product, didnt have to continually stir, went on easy and I am happy with outcome. Probably wont show in pic.

Got four deck pieces done and garage smells like a paint varnish shop.

A good day was had by all.

This post is probably all over the place but weather, work area and new discoveries are dictating whats going down.

I'll try to keep this in some kind of order.

So if you recollect that previously the bow eye and the trailer winch strap hook werent happy, meaning didnt fit so the PO imo filed down the inside of the eye to make it fit...so the spring latch would close.

I took it (eye) into the shop and asked my ole bud, the weld supv. if he would ask a tig welder to see if he could fill it in a bit.

Unbelievable job. These 2 pics are with no clean up with files, grinding or sanding. Welding is an art form imo.

And then previously the weather provided an unplanned leak test. I wanted to do the full blown so filled her up. I really like this Gflex stuff so proof will be in the test eh.

So watched my new tire go half flat and was thinking pbly enough H2o. Didnt get water level that high but a good test.

Crawled under das boot and tried to mark the first leak with a marker but hull was too damp and wouldnt work. Crawled out, got a pencil and layed there looking at a rainstorm.

WTH, this thing is a sieve. Just about this point I am thinking OK, cut her up for scrap!

Well, some deep breathing, got me to the point of looking at big picture and it was so hot, so humid that good old condensation had made the whole bottom of hull full of condensation that was running in streaks every where.......

No pics.

I will pull her off trailer and gflex the 2 spots I know of and retest. Mostly because I want to see if this stuff works that well. I'd rather keep the water out than try and stop it after it got past seams and rivit head eh.

Re: 1979 Sea Nymph FM 161 resto

Snooping around the shop for some scrap SS found a beauty piece that will serve my idea of using as backing plate under the deck for seat posts.

Then I smoozed the Ops mgr. so could get CAD man to draw them and lay them out.

Hope this comes out OK, first video I am trying.

We have the hybrid ACME / BINFORD XXL 7000 hi-def plasma machine, so then Shop supv said OK could jump into the schedule and...

Re: 1979 Sea Nymph FM 161 resto

OK, winding down a bit. Previously, H2o mentioned that since my trailer bunks stuck out so far from back of trailer that if I move winch post back it would ease launch and recovery.

He was very observant and I knew somewhere along the line would have to address it.

So I'm sitting in my chair after good day of work enjoying a Molson...looking at upcoming jobs...bunks and this doesnt look right !

H2o was absolutely correct but what I didnt realize was the PO had re-installed them backwards.:confused:

So just go with the flow and turn em around but of course they are rusted up pretty well so just a few more SS bolts and will be good to go.

Geez oh man.

Yeah it worked SG, just have to watch the video at your PB rather than an embed like with youtube. That is one awesome machine there, love the sound of it too.

Funny how PO's are always doing nutty things, I wonder if they have their own forum? The new improved bow eye should work good for oh, I'd say another 30+ years. Hopefully the bunks should be an easy fix.

Not sure I understand where to dump the water from bilge pump ?

I do know overboard is good, but is letting to go onto the splash well OK ?

Cruised a bunch of threads but not clear to me.

Thank you!

Re: 1979 Sea Nymph FM 161 resto

I suppose into the splashwell would be ok.

But why pump it somewhere else IN the boat where it still needs to drain OUT of the boat? To prevent drilling a thru hull fitting in the side of the hull?

Been a bit, your SN didn't have a thru hull bilge drain before?

My preference: With a loop in the discharge hose, above the waterline, thru the hull on the starboard side. That way you can see the discharge & whatever is being discharged, from the helm. But not too high, the higher the thru hull, the less effective the pump, the harder it has to work, and the more water that'll be left in the hose when the pump turns off. On an auto-on float switch.

If you'll ever leave it in the water, a second higher GPH pump, w/ it's intake above the smaller pump's auto-on float point.

Although many come w/ corrugated plastic discharge hose, I'd use smooth bore, flexible tubing. It's less likely to crack & fail over time.
