Re: 1980 Sea Nymph SS 165 Rebuild

Great Job!
I had the 1978 version of that boat and loved it......Unfortunately it needed to be totally redone like yours and I just didn't have the time to fix it.
It was a very wet ride when the waves would kick up. There is nothing to knock down the waves as they travel up the sides of the hull. I must admit that I only read a few pages out of the 50+ so any comment I am about to make could have already covered.
I think you are going to regret putting a fuel tank that big up front. That hull lays very flat in the water and I think that You are going to have trouble getting proper bow lift. My boat had a 12 gallon in the back from the factory. If you had a full tank, and fill the livewell it would be close to 450lbs (Assuming your livewell is 15gal) Then add 2 adults 350lbs+ 300lbs engine......Your @ 1100lbs without gear at best! This is not even considering the rear live wells!

I not trying to be negative because you did a hell of a job fixing her up... but I just know how that hull handles and when I saw all of the possibility for weight addition it kind of worried me. One suggestion I would make is to add Smart Tabs to it. It was the best money I ever spent on mine. The hull is very flat at the stern and likes to slide around at speed. They will also allow you to trim the hell out of the motor!

You are a sick man. Lights look great, that horn, well it certainly adds character. It sounds crazy, but I think I may like it. Will be a fun boat!

"RICOLA". :)
As the wise sage and philosopher Rodney Dangerfield once said: "looks good on you though"

Re: 1980 Sea Nymph SS 165 Rebuild

Nice avatar change  So, ya like fishing ya say. Hmmm Who'd have thunk it?

Well, I must admit, I'm not fond of the horn's look, but, yeah, seems to fit. I'm surprised it wasn't an unannounced addition to be 'announced' at splash. Until the boys are a bit older, horn blasts may take precedence over tranquility while fishing

Kind of depends... Do they favor you? Well, horns may always be irresistible.....

Well done on the lights, gunwale & nav both look good.

Does Mich have a height reg for the stern 180* light? In the pix from the bow, it looks like it sticks up above the motor's cowl......

Shaping up nicely...

Re: 1980 Sea Nymph SS 165 Rebuild

Hey guys! Thanks a whole bunch for swinging through and chipping in! Let's see if I can get caught up here eh...

GA - Yah, hatch/baitwell lighting - for now, not so much. If I find that I'd like the extra lighting I'll add it on, would be an easy thing to do. Yah buddy, the list is getting shorter, love that!

Truck - You shoulc see what youngens do with that horn buttton in person!:D Yah, they love it!

McCraney et all - Yah, I know the "look" of horn doesn't really fit this SN. Seems PMC was thinking Ricola. I guess I was thinking it was more like...
grinch-9.jpg

So yah, good fun!!:D

gagnon - Well, the tank completely full (which I'll rarely have) is only 270#. Bow livewell is actually just a fish box so couple of bags of ice. My livewell at the stern is actually just a baitwell, pretty small actually, so hardly any weight there. I'm really excited that I was able to get that tank up front there! Alternative would have been a smaller tank at the stern which would have meant batts at the bow. That would have been a total wash. Passengers will likely be riding in various spots in the boat and I can certainly distribute the weight any way I like with bodies. Tell ya what, the weight of this boat compared to when I got it will be cut by 500 - 600 lbs easy! I think she'll ride great, but time will tell;) That's cool that you have the same boat, identical! I don't think I have seen any photos of this same rig yet. I love your LayZBoy seats!

JB - Yah, the light clears the OB but it's too short. I installed the base on the deck rather than the gunwale as I originally intended. Yup, I need to get a taller one.

Cheers!:)

Re: 1980 Sea Nymph SS 165 Rebuild

Today was a great day, electrics are complete!!

I just got my new Temp Sender in the mail yesterday. So, you can see here I got it just under one of the head bolts. You can see I also took off a little paint there hoping for a little more accurate read.

Bolted down, wired up...

As you know I cracked my plastic 12V at install. Well, I replaced it with this stainless steel one...

I don't smoke but do like a cigar every now and then...
P1090150.jpg

It also serves as a chart light, really cool!
P1090151.jpg

That will be very nice when I just need a little light at the helm there.

I wasn't real happy with the way/length of the batt cables to the engine. So what I did was sink a couple of spare stainless thru hulls at the very back of the stern deck and ran em through there. I also wrapped em with split loom, the temp sender wire got wrapped in that bundle too...

The empty one will be used for my stern mounted trolling motor and transducer wire. Like it!

Here's a few shots of the finished wire job...

I even labeled my fuses like a good boat builder:D

Certainly not a pro job but it's all good for my purposes. I have seen some amazing electrical jobs here on iboats. I really think it's an art onto itself.

Helm dash complete!

I think there are really only two other things I'd like to do. Add on a emergency kill switch with lanyard and I'm thinking I have enough going on here that I might like to have a battery selector too.

Getting closer!:D

The battery selector switch is a must Jas, otherwise all that wiring sucks battery dry. A couple of days ago, fellas at launch jumps dead battery in boat from truck, and they take off to go fishing cause, "the battery was good the other day" They never tried to figure out why battery drained dry, just hoped outboard didn't die and its charging system was working.

Ur wiring job looks good and the dash too

Re: 1980 Sea Nymph SS 165 Rebuild

Yah guys, totally agree. I already have the kill switch here on hand...
P1090168.jpg

I just need to figure out how to wire it up. It's the "Universal" with the 2 M's and 2 C's...
P1090167.jpg

I don't yet have the batt switch but I'm going to grab one pretty quick here.

On deck is plumbing up the baitwell:cool:

Ya I bet the first thing to wear out is the horn button.

Electrical looks good, I imagine you're glad to check that off the list.

Do I dare to ask when we might see a wooooooo hooing horn honking video that involves water? (like how I dance around it?)

Once again it's just "WOW!" from me... Nice work mate, how about using Bert's tracks and then you could have a slide-on - slide-off horn?

Ok, here's the thing...

So we were at my bro and sis' place today. Bro's parents were there and they invited us to come out to their house for a Labor Day BBQ, love it!

Now, they also happen to live on an excellent lake.

So, uh, yah. Just wanted to mention that. Nothing more;)

Just making small talk is all:D
