Re: 1980 Sea Nymph SS 165 Rebuild
Great Job!
I had the 1978 version of that boat and loved it......Unfortunately it needed to be totally redone like yours and I just didn't have the time to fix it.
It was a very wet ride when the waves would kick up. There is nothing to knock down the waves as they travel up the sides of the hull. I must admit that I only read a few pages out of the 50+ so any comment I am about to make could have already covered.
I think you are going to regret putting a fuel tank that big up front. That hull lays very flat in the water and I think that You are going to have trouble getting proper bow lift. My boat had a 12 gallon in the back from the factory. If you had a full tank, and fill the livewell it would be close to 450lbs (Assuming your livewell is 15gal) Then add 2 adults 350lbs+ 300lbs engine......Your @ 1100lbs without gear at best! This is not even considering the rear live wells!
I not trying to be negative because you did a hell of a job fixing her up... but I just know how that hull handles and when I saw all of the possibility for weight addition it kind of worried me. One suggestion I would make is to add Smart Tabs to it. It was the best money I ever spent on mine. The hull is very flat at the stern and likes to slide around at speed. They will also allow you to trim the hell out of the motor!
