Gus - I was thinkin about the big girl today, playing out the next steps in my head a little. Her day will come:)

In that case, here is a little ditty that you can play out in your head...over and over and ...;)...

Re: 1980 Sea Nymph SS 165 Rebuild

I deserved that Gus:redface:

-------------------------------------------------

All right, progress accountability.

This morning I worked some on the trolling motor bracket. I'd like to have that wrapped up and installed by the weekend.

I also spent some time thinking/mocking up the stern deck/bench. I know I mentioned before that whole part of the build will be the crux of this project, and it is. I'll need to run some low level engineering to make this strong, functional and look good.

My problem is I'm just "low level" and not at all an "engineer":(

Cheers guys!:)

I have seen a lot of "so called" engineered things and when I compare what you have done with all of your boats, they seem pretty "low level" compared to you...

Don't ever sell yourself short, bro...you got some seriously mad skills...

PS- you deserve that, too...

Aww shucks:redface:

Fully deserved! It was great seeing the Sea Nymph running like a champ, and the smiles on the kids faces says it all. Very cool, thanks for setting the bar high for the rest of us!

BTW, I've started my glasser reno thread. There will be little to no grinding and glassing, I'm just giving her a makeover, and getting the engine back to where it should be. There are a few minor glass projects I'll take on, but nothing major.
Link is in my sigline.

Kind regards,
Neil

Re: 1980 Sea Nymph SS 165 Rebuild

Well, been a few days but I can finally hit you with an update.

So a long time ago my buddy Drew (boatnut) gifted me this nice bracket...

Thanks again Drew!!

So I pulled it all apart, sanded off the finish and re sealed...

Here's the stuff I used, 5 coats on the faces, double that on the edges...
P1090615_zps4fa39fc1.jpg

I really like it, dries faster and harder than just the straight spar varnish I was using before.

I decided I didn't need the spring loaded guts so I cleaned up the alum, grabbed some new SS hardware and rebuilt it to be a fixed bracket...

Now even though it "fixed" I can actually lower it another few inches if I want to by just unbolt, slide it down, rebolt...

Now, you may be thinking, "Hey Jas, why didn't you go bow mount? Are you a loser or what?"

Well loser, yah pretty much:rolleyes:

But I have found that I'm just not all that fond of foot controlled bow mounts. I really feel just a bunch more comfortable running hand control at the stern, ya know. I realize I give up a little bit of directional stability/control by not having it at the bow but I'm cool with that.

Two bonuses:

1. This is waaaayyyy cheaper than a nice bow mount.

2. I can pop this off and mount it to my 14' utility in a flash, love that!

Have a great weekend yall!

Great job Jason, that is the same Spar Varnish I use for all my sealing, real nice stuff. I feel the same as you on foot control bowmounts yuk, so I added a co-pilot remote to mine and boy is that nice to use, but pricey.

Isn't this about the time that Teamster comes through congratulating you on going tiller?

Bracket looks good.

Bomber bracket buddy!

Question - what are the two fittings visible on the gunwale in the second last pic? Did I miss a step.

Nother question - never used an electric troller before. How much thrust time do you get to a charge?

Awesome work!!! Looks great. Another nice little finishing touch... I tend to prefer bow mount because I like to fish off the bow deck when I'm by myself.. But that's mostly bass fishing working the banks or docks in coves. You can always add one later if u want...The mfgs are very proud of them in terms of pricing.

Yah that Spar Urethane laid down really nice, I like it!

Oooo, Co-Pilot, very cool:cool:

Bracket looks good.

Thanks truck, real happy with how that turned out:)

Fittings? Eh? Whatcutalkinboutwillis?

For the TM/batt, I'll have ot get back to you on that after some fishing time. I have a feeling I can easily get a full day of fishing out of it with what I do.:)

Thanks man, you know, I'm glad I got at least a chunk of wood on this boat. Knda looks good back there:D

Re: 1980 Sea Nymph SS 165 Rebuild

Got some more work done today. I reconfigured my batts (again). I won't tell you how many different ways I set em in there, more ammo for you doods!

I also wired up the TM and my new batt selector switch, all checked out, all good:D

On to the stern bench/deck:cool:

Now, you may be thinking, "Hey Jas, why didn't you go bow mount?

Nope, I wouldn't wonder that at all!!!,....

If you going to be using it on the river you'll find going backwards is better for control anyway,...

I think scout's asking about the 2 side by side fittings @the bottom center:

Re: 1980 Sea Nymph SS 165 Rebuild

Ah, ok. Yah, my batt cable run was getting too long going around and back. I had two spare stainless thru hull fittings so I sunk em through the stern deck back there. Now I can run shorter batt cables, my temp sending wire, trolling motor wires and (eventually) my transducer wire right through those fittings. Real happy with how those turned out.

Have a great Sunday guys!

Looking good. I know that with a 14' flat bottom and two guys on the river my 27 class batteries lasted about three hours. That is constant moving. I agree with teamster that going backward is way easier.

Hmmm, I think he's asking about the gunwale fittings in the 3rd shot in post #1687 below the words: Locked on the 50# Minn Kota... Could be wrong, it's been known to happen! :)
