Re: 1980 Sea Nymph SS 165 Rebuild
Rookie question of the day: What are those bolts made of so they don't corrade? I may be doing something similar soon...
Those are all stainless steel all slathered up in 5200. Matter of fact, that job up there I had 5200 everywhere! Whatta mess!
I do not have a problem with an aluminum plat on the back. Anything else though............
Yah, for other fellas who are thinking about the plate on the back...
My own opinion (same as ez's actually) is that wood should be avoided. Just a great opportunity to invite rot and such. Also, in most cases, that piece can be completely left off all together.
Now, in my case, since the previous outboard bracket had left some creases in the skin due to a worthless transom, once I bolted my outboard up onto a new transom, the skin might have flexed enough to actually crack it. Now with this plate on, it can flex all it wants to as it's completely bedded in 5200, totally sealed up.
Not that you are even considering it Jas, but for other's benefit......I'd really avoid any of those specialty Rusto spray paints for anything other than small accent pieces. I painted the top deck of the Jupiter with the Metallics one and it was a nightmare.
Yah, thanks for posting that. I should prolly mention...
Kinda my theory on paint is two fold:
1) Gotta be inexpensive or it's gotta be very expensive. Middle of the road can very well give same/similar results to the cheap stuff so why not go cheap. Expensive stuff needs a skilled hand to use, this I am not.
2) Must be easy to obtain vs. having a specialty paint shipped from never never land. That way I can touch up or recoat any time it seems appropriate.
Rustoleum fits the bill on all accounts
That's just me though.
