Thanks a bunch guys, she's getting there, just need to keep the blades turnin;)

Drew - good eye man. Yah the cavitation plate is just about an inch above the keel. I think that should be all right but I should know more at the Sea Trial:)

Re: 1980 Sea Nymph SS 165 Rebuild

So this morning I just started kinda sorting stuff out...

I rigged up my fuel line fittings...

The black plastic ones that come with have let me down in the past so I used stainless hose clamps instead.

Gauges! Ok....

I slid the black set and the white set in place just to compare. Check it out...

Both are pretty cool lookin in there but yah, I gotta go black. Matched up with the black ignition key, the black steering bezel, black 12V outlet and the black windshield frame, I just think they'll match much nicer. I'll keep the white set for the Islander.

For that temp gauge I'll just run it I think. It should give me the basic idea if the Rude is running hot.

This varnished cap just looks silly now, that will need to be replaced with a black one or maybe I'll paint it black...
P1090045.jpg

I slid the switches in place just to eyeball things so far, like it!
P1090047.jpg

I'm a moron though. I cut the horn switch hole (far left) too big for the switch. So just a slight change in plans. The ignition will now go there. My 12V outlet will go where the ignition was going to go (far right). Then I'll drill a new hole for the horn in the upper right hand corner above the 12V. Little different than what I planned but it'll work just great.

Rock on guys!

Excellent choice on the black gauges, they look awesome. Everything seems to be coming along nicely, home stretch now :D

Re: 1980 Sea Nymph SS 165 Rebuild

Thanks a bunch iboats drydock dwellers!:)

--------------------------------------

K, this morning, a mix of good progress and dumb stuff.

I had two big holes and some corrosion in my gunwale so I drilled out and put a big stainless bolt there...
P1090064.jpg

That big bolt covers up the mess but kinda also serves as support for all the cables/wires that will be run under there. You can also see a couple holes off to the left, I'll get something for those too.

I started running all the rigging too. Engine harness, T&T harness, fuel line, steering cable bundled up and cable tied under the gunwale...
P1090063.jpg

Then dumb: I went to install the 12V outlet and apparently torqued it a bit too much, cracked it. Rats.

More dumb: I got the steering cap all painted up looking nice and at the last spray paint pass it slipped off the hook and fell right into a pile of sawdust next to my table saw.
P1090058.jpg

So now I get to redo that. Rats.

I drilled out for the horn switch, course put a couple new scratches in the alum dash cleaning up the hole with a file. Dumb.

All the same, I got the switch installed, looking good...
P1090062.jpg

New tach is on the way and I'll need another 12V outlet for those other two holes.

But, on the port side of the dash, everything is installed and ready to be rigged up, like it!

Have a good one all!

Nice work Jason. You'll recover from the oop's just fine. Maybe someone slipped you some decaf?

Wow Jason, powering along there! Are you going to leave the dash or paint it? Just thinking about glare, that's all...

All the gauges and switches look great. WOW!!!
As far as your steering cap goes you could just stain it and go for the non-slip look. (J K)

Thanks gib!

Dood, now wouldn't that just be a mean thing to do to ol Jas! Yah, that'd throw me right off:rolleyes:

Thanks mate!:D Yah, they will be bare (well, plus SharkHide). Since these pieces have the "brushed" finish any glare is really not a biggie.

Thanks bondo boat buddy! Yah, I really like the black faced gauges, that was definitely the way to go. Those switches kinda have more of a classic look/feel to em. I like that too:) On the cap, next post;)

Re: 1980 Sea Nymph SS 165 Rebuild

So I wanted to start working on the control side of things. I first needed a panel to mount the old OMC throttle setup. I was reaching for some plywood but saw the top of the alum fuel tank that I cut out sitting over in the corner...
P1090066.jpg

Hey, let's go for it!

Made some marks and chopped out a panel for controls...
P1090067.jpg

P1090069.jpg

Need to get that cleaned up and ready for install yet.

I wanted to get my old OMC controls looking more newish so I pulled everything apart for cleaning and paint up the black parts...
P1090074.jpg

Man, I do like that there are really only a few parts to this. Pretty easy/simple to take all apart like that. Glad I did too, the blue T&T wire was being cut through. I'll get that fixed up.

Got that steering cap all sanded down, repainted and installed too...

Have an excellent weekend guys:D

Re: 1980 Sea Nymph SS 165 Rebuild

K, so I got that piece all cleaned up...
P1090075.jpg

I dry fit it 1/2 dozen different ways, even chopped an extra 4" off. I ended up with it riveted in place here...
P1090076.jpg

Do I like this?
P1090077.jpg

I think I do. Maybe? Maybe not? Hmmm. It matches the dash panels really well and it plenty strong.

Maybe I need to get the controls in then we'll see:)
