Looking really sharp!
I picked up the B&W version Humminbird that your looking at. Works great and easy to use. It also gives me something to play with when the fishing is slow.

Most of my time has been taken up with the new SC hanger That's why I haven't been around much. Now back to work...

These tools are great for tournament fisherman or guides that have their livelihood depending on finding fish.

OK, so, begs the question....

If I somehow convince my beautiful bride to allow for a fishing furlough, and she says...

"If you are going, you better bring back fish for dinner!"

Is that about the same thing? You know, my livelihood depending on finding fish:eek:

Yes, in which case you should just get a really large net and cast it and drag it all around the lake till the engine bogs down, should be pretty full by then, forget the FF...;)

Re: 1980 Sea Nymph SS 165 Rebuild

The sea nymph embroidery is super cool....

On the electronics, I hear ya' - I agree with GA_Boater. These tools are great for tournament fisherman or guides that have their livelihood depending on finding fish. However, for the recreational angler (like me) that visits the same water frequently, I like the traditional methods (word of mouth, finding your honey holes, etc..). On my home lake, we have lots of good structure spots marked with buoys, etc... Putting expensive electronics in a marine environment where they get wet, etc.. leads to some bugginess as well. (e.g. how many marine stereos have you seen that still work after 3 or 4 years....).

All that said, I'll probably put a fish finder/depth finder on my boat, but will try to find something reasonable...

Different strokes I guess.

I need a fishfinder. And if my budget allowed I absolutely would have one with side imaging tech. Much clearer picture, and a view away from the boat. I can see SO many advantages to this and feel that having it absolutely would help me to catch more fish.

BTW the Humminbird's get points for being user friendly. I can see it, but I'm used to Lowrance. Hummingbird being made in the USA and having great service might be the final selling point for me though.

The seats look great. Very well done on this one.

I'd just make it easy and take out a few sticks of good ole dynamite and be done with the fishing.

Have a good one jas.

Thanks guys:)

OK, so, here's a few photos for ya.

So here's the rod holder bracket that slides into my Bert's Track. It's fabricated up from a whole variety of items around the garage (I'll not bore ya with the details)...

Here's what it looks like with my Big Jon rod holders mounted...

Cool!

So I started to mock up the stern cockpit of this rig early in the a.m. This is kinda what it will look like with the seat folded down, big casting deck, full on fishin mode...

Here's what it'll look like in ski/cruise mode...

Yah baby!!
I'll have storage under the seat cushion, eh!

Like!

That is AWESOME...Glad to see you have room for that extra bench seat. My rear casting deck is going to be about that big and I was hoping I wasn't going to be too close to the captains chairs. Still looks roomy in there even with the bench addition. I really like it.

Nice job on the rod holders as well.

Great job Jas, just one quicky... are you fitting stoppers to prevent the cushions squishing together in full fishing mode?

Re: 1980 Sea Nymph SS 165 Rebuild

Thanks fellas!:D

PMC - Yah, I mentioned a while back the "compromise" I'll have to sort out with this being a fish and ski rig. I was second guessing myself adding in this bench as I was concerned with the deck space it might eat up (I almost didn't do it). It does take some away, but with it now mocked up I can see it's really not bad at all. And, what I get is a pretty sweet bench out of the deal. So, I'm cool with it:cool:

TII - The foam I have there is really pretty firm closed cell. This was another "compromise" I had to make. I really wanted nice thick 4" open cell foam to make it a bit more comfy but it would have squished down too much. With this closed cell (and a full inch of plywood deck) it shouldn't squish at all on me. If by chance it does, I have a plan to build out a stopper of sorts. I'm nearly certain I won't need to go that route though.;)

Cheers all:)

You could make the bench removable and only take it with when in ski mode,..........

That won't work for the kids, gotta remember they go from beach mode to fishing mode and back again faster than he can flip that seat up even with it permanently installed.

The rod holder is really a great design and should work extremely well for you. The brackets you made look very professional.

I really like your ideal of adding the seat/casting deck. It just adds so much more to the boat. Are you planing to put a removeable seat with a pedistal on the rear deck or just stand when fishing.

You just keep getting better all the time.

Great job Jason, as usual alot of planning went into the design.

I've been stewing about this maneuver since the day I brought this boat home. I've prolly tweeked this a thousand times in my head. I think I made about a dozen changes yet this morning on how this will finish out.

I do hope it's cool in the end:cool:

That will be a nice addition!!!

Thanks man, just hoping I can make it functional enough for fishing and comfortable enough for cruising:)

dmoriarty has that covered, nice:D

Re: 1980 Sea Nymph SS 165 Rebuild

OK, so that last time I was out fishing I struck up a conversation with a fella at the dock who happened to be headed out for some muskie fishing. He said. "They're in there!"

Since then I've been considering some heavier tackle ifyaknowwhattamean;)

So then this pops up:

Different lake, but all the same very cool!

Congrats to Seeberger and his new state record (possible world record for 8lb line, wow!).

I've never actually hunted for muskie - I think I otta start:)

Musky fishing=the crack addiction of fishing

Once you get a follow from a medium to large fish, you won't stop till you start catching them.

Re: 1980 Sea Nymph SS 165 Rebuild

Wow, I don't think I'd want to be in a 17' boat w/ that monster & 2 other people, unless Muskie's are much less aggressive then Northern Pike. Northern's in the 30-36" range were a handful, add another 24"+/- and yikes watch your hands & legs

Yep, gonna need heavier gear. Might start Ethan & Evan on the muscle milk and a tree cutting physical fitness regime, that thing probably out weighs 1, and longer then either is tall

That beast best the previous record handily. In WV it's usually under 8oz & small increments of length when a record gets beat. But I do hear we've got muskie in the river... Hmmmm..
