Started putting the rub rail back on yesterday and got rained out. Thought I'd be able to finish today but is raining now and supposed to rain all day today. Still have to install the Lowrance Fish Finder also. Rain, rain and more rain. Feels like I live in summer time Florida! LoL

Re: 1982 GW, 24' Project (UPDATED W/PICS)

Finally got the rub rail back on. The rain started in the morning but had a nice sunshine day in the afternoon and got her finished. Today I'm going to try and get my Lowrance HDS-7 installed and hopefully my new fishing buddy and I can go do little fishing as well as learn to use my new equipment. After I get a little experience with seamanship skills I want to join up with TriumphRick and fish up in his "neck of the woods." Oh I almost forgot to tell ya about my "oweee." Never accidentally drop a hand drill on your foot. I had a Phillips head #2 bit in it and the heavy DeWalt drill fell straight down and stuck into my middle toe. Good thing I was wearing "flip flops" instead of bare footed. Could have been hurt! (Just kidding!) Please, more cheese with my whine!

Don't open picture link unless you want to get grossed out!

Now is that because of the little cut or those toe nails ;)

I cut them once a year wheather they need it or not. Don't get too excited about my feet though. Someone might be reading this LoL

Thanks Tiwaz. After two years of frustrations it sure feels good to have her out in the water. Think I'm gonna put the cuddy rehab on the back burner and just go fishing and hone my seamanship skills by taking the Coast Guard Safety Course. About 100 years ago I had a small boat for lake fishing but the sea is quite a bit differant and takes a lot more knowledge to be safe.

Hi and great job with all your perserverance!! :D and I love the 1rst post that was so optimistic...ya gotta love it!
2 weeks and Ill be out on the water
or something like that....you sounded like me....cept I never learn that stuff takes alot longer than ya think...hahah

I just read (over a couple cups of coffee) the whole thread.... Bummer that you didnt find the bad u-joints when you had the outdrive off the 1rst time!:(

Glad you found your water intrusion issue and got most of that figured

I bet you'll LOVE that side-scan sonar.... should help put you in the fish alot better too! It will be interesting to see the difference between before and after the sonar in your fish haul :)

Sure is a pretty boat and you sure made a real diamond out of her......

Are you going to mess with a hard top (make your own) next season?

Keep on keepin on and thanks for sharing your build with all of us!

Thanks Vegasphotoman. I wish I had a wife that was willing to crawl under a boat and sand on the hull! You just gotta appreciate your wife! Mine would wanna know what I was smoking. LoL You've done some great work on your restorations also.

I didn't actually have the the whole outboard off before just the foot. Turns out the u-joints were ok and it was the gimbal bearing that was bad. So when the joints go bad I'll already have them.

After installing the gimbal bering I pumped grease into the zert fitting to make sure it went all around the bearing. I then put the uppper unit back in.

I guess it's time to end this posting after two years. I want to thank everyone for all your help and suggestions that got me finally in the water. The project boat will go on for a short while longer to get the cosmetics the way I want them. For new challenges I will be starting new postings instead of carrying them on in this one. Most notably rehabbing the cuddy, painting the decks with KiwiGrip and other little irritating problems. Again thanks to all! See ya on the water! Ron in Tampa, Florida

So, Ron..where do I get to post all the pics of the fish we will be catching up here..you put me on the spot and I have to produce!!

And, sure, you can keep a few of the numbers on that Lowrance..can't wait to see how the bottom really looks on the side scan..!!

And it sure has been good following this thread over the past couple of years. I had just come aboard the forum and was able to hook up with you, son Gene and your brothers. We had a great day on the water and came home with some nice grouper! Looking forward to our next trip out! Rick

Hey Rick. Wish I knew about my Lowrance HDS-7. I "THOUGHT" I had ordered the HDS-7 with side scan. I don't really know what I bought! I can't figure out if I have to get a unit with it already installed or if it's a add on like the structure scan and down scan. Lowrance really tricks the "novice" by giving vague information that makes the buyer unable to make a correct decision for his needs or wants. The manual not much help either.

Been doing a little fishing and having a great time. Installed the Lowrance HDS-7 and I'm really impressed with it. Just ordered the structure scan module and should be here Monday or Tuesday. Also found out that I needed an oscillating fan on the helm so I installed that today. Going Red Fish fishing tomorrow and hope to hook some nice ones with blue crabs as bait. Taking the camera along also.
