Re: 1982 Sylvan Bassboat project
wooohooo!!! That's a huge accomplishment on iBoats!! Jasoutside, eat your heart out.
SP & JBC, thanks as well.
So here we go......
I got my mix table all setup,
And followed the advice of Wood on my ratios. (1 oz harder, 2 cubs paint, 3/4 cup acetone) Mix frequently for 30 minutes. Then practiced on a sheet of cardboard to get the hvlp gun setup right. Wood, you were right that stuff just flows like a dream!
It was going so well I almost burned up the compressor motor. I got about half the hull painted when the motor on the compressor didn't want to start back up. (it's electric) after letting it sit for a few minutes it tried to run but quit right away. Carp! now what? I got a double batch of paint mixed up and half a hull covered. For once I was glad I'm in cold Michigan. I had the brilliant idea to put the compressor outside (it's 30 degrees with 20+ mph winds) It fired up and ran fine to fill the tank. I then made a point of stopping spraying everytime the compressor kicked back on to let it refill. This worked like a dream and I was able to finish the job. A little slower than I wanted but coat number one is on my girls new dress!
and now for my crappy paint shop skills showing where the green line will be. Judge, Wood, GT1M thanks all for the advice on how to proceed with the stripe. I've decided that given the location and the fact that I have such a good transition point that an edge won't matter, that the easiest way to do this will be to paint the entire hull white then tape off and paint the green after the fact. I can soften the ridge with rubbing compount or cover it with pin stripe tape if I need to.
The greatest coffee warmer of all times award goes to U!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
