Re: 1982 Sylvan Bassboat project
Thanks all for the support and kudo's. I guess I am my own worst critic. Like Wood said, I'm a bit anal, it goes with my profession, lol.
In the light of a new day and cured paint I was able to knock most of the fuzz off and leave no trace just with my hand. I decided a light wet sand after it's all cured and a buff and no one will know the difference.
On to the project of the night. We are back in the 80's today and I didn't want to waste any of this great weather. so I taped her off and put down the first coat of GREEN stripe!
The plan was this, tape off about 1/2 inch away from my paint line with tape and paper. Being exact was not mandatory here just stay in the 1/2 inch zone. Then I came back and laid down a single line of tape exactly on my desired line. I used a plastic filler spreader to "set" the tape edge after it was all down where I wanted it. I only had one line that would be highly visible and I used a straight edge to pencil in my reference line to follow with the tape.
I cover anything I wanted to keep white with plastic sheeting just in case I had overspray.
Then I was able to shoot the green stripe
I let it dry while I was cleaning my gun up and then while it was still wet I carefully pulled off the edge piece of tape. This left a nice clean edge. I did have 1 smudge of green from my finger and one from a corner not sealed good. Using a clean rag dipped in mineral spirits I was able to clean both of these spots up and no one will ever know. The key was pulling the edge tape while it was wet. I'm leaving the rest of the boat covered in hopes of taping up the edges one more time tomorrow and shooting one last coat on the stripe.
I am excited with the outcome on this one.
