Your enthusiasm and willingness to move on to the next problem are appreciated but, not everyone can magically look through the computer to see your boat. You'll need to describe the engine and outdrive for this thread. We can make assumptions but, well, you know where that leads ;).

Look closer and see if you can better pinpoint the source of the leak. Look at hoses, around bolts, and at fittings. That'll go a long way toward what might be a possible solution.

The motor is a AQ30 and the outdrive is a model 280 i belive. When we put it in the water 2day the engine bay was filling up with water fast so we pulled it out n looked at the back and it was leaking from the bottom of the outdrive. It has caulking around it and it seems 2 have gone bad.

The transom shield is sealed with a large rubber seal against the outside of the transom. The thru bolts hold the transom shield and rubber seal against the outside. The caulk does nothing for the seal.

IF you're sure it's leaking past the transom shield, then you've got some bad news coming. Look closer at the bolts and washers and dig around back there with a screwdriver or awl. If you've got soft or mushy wood then you can start drawing your own conclusions.

So you have a 4 cylinder Volvo diesel, correct? Since you just fixed the carburator, I highly doubt that is what you have. Might want to check. If you can't give accurate discriptions of what you have and what the problem is, it's impossible to give accurate information as to how to fix it.

Can you post a picture showing where the water is leaking back out of the boat at? It makes a very big difference.

if its leaking around the transom shield, it may be because the transom of the boat is rotten and the seal is lost. There is a seal the goes between the transom and transom shield but it is a big job to replace it. Are you positive its leaking around the shield? does the water run out from the base of the transom shield when you have the boat out of the water? You could be in a bad spot with this. There are other places it could leak so it's important to make sure you can find the leak.

Its a 1984 sunbird

Ayuh,... My guess is, the Transom is Rotten... No amount of caulking is going to Fix it...

Then you need a new transom, the wood has turned to mush from rot, and the transom and transom shield is what supports the engine and drive.
Find a qualified tech or marine fiberglass repair place in your area and have them check it. If you don't know what you are looking at or for, you could very well miss the obvious.

So there is nothing else it could be? This sounds very costly.

Close, but you have to start the process of elimination somewhere.

The first thing you should do is drain all the water out of the boat. Take the boat to the ramp, tied down on the trailer and back it down it the water and open the engine hatch and LOOK at where the water is actually coming in from. That is a lot easier than seeing where it's coming out at. Don't forget, water runs down hill and may be leaking from something higher.

You have to learn the termonology of what you are working on. There is no way in the world the outdrive can leak into the boat. Transom shield yes, outdrive, no.

Have you ever visited the Volvo section of the Adults only sticky? It's the second post in this forum.

well the outdrive was taken off in 2005 and it looks like the guy who did it didnt use a gasket when he put it back on. looks to be caulked on. i filled the engine bay up with a hose n its leakin at the bottom of were the outdrive bolts up 2 the boat.
