angle will work as long as it is aluminum or stainless BUT the tube will work and look fine as well.... It is thin wall stainless tubing... the loss of strength is not an issue. The boat in my signature (also a wellcraft) has it done the way I told you from the factory... the entire flattened part is against the hull or the bottom of the platform... all of the part that needs to be rigid is still round.
the ends of the tube get ground smooth so no sharp edged but again are completely flush against a flat surface
