angle will work as long as it is aluminum or stainless BUT the tube will work and look fine as well.... It is thin wall stainless tubing... the loss of strength is not an issue. The boat in my signature (also a wellcraft) has it done the way I told you from the factory... the entire flattened part is against the hull or the bottom of the platform... all of the part that needs to be rigid is still round.

the ends of the tube get ground smooth so no sharp edged but again are completely flush against a flat surface

Thanks for the input. I think I'll sick with the round tube, I don't have to worry about edges or figure out how it would work. Apparently I just can't grasp the concept of the angle iron. Bad news is I'll probably have to pay for welding. Why some men think things have to be their way or the highway I'll never understand. ;). I appreciate all the advice guys!

the flat tabs get bent to match the hull and platform putting the round part at about 45 degrees

So essentially the longer the platform the lower I have to mount.it on the boat. Is that just because it provides better support that way? Why would a fifteen or thirty degree angle not work?

Since everyone sort of dropped it, I'll go back to your "rooster tail" issue, which is NOT normal. I'll bet you a quarter that your anode that is supposed to be in the anti-ventilation plate is missing, and the water is shooting up through the hole where the bolt is supposed to be. Replace the anode, and your rooster tail will be gone.

I'm assuming that's to be located on the outdrive correct? I haven't fully educated myself on all the parts of the engine and outdrive and where to locate them. What damage could it cause to the boat, engine, or outdrive?

45 degrees wasn't intended as an exact figure BUT the closer to 45 deg the better... a 15 degree angle would not be enough but where to draw the line is a bit fuzzy... personally I'd shoot for 45 degrees.... If that limits you then move the top mount further forward on the platform and make the platform more rigid

No direct/immediate damage will be caused. However, the anode is there for corrosion protection. So if it's missing, you don't have all the corrosion protectiton available to you.
In this photo, directly above the prop blade pointing up, there is a "cavity". That is where the anode is supposed to be. Yours would stick down, like a fin.

In this photo, also of a Bravo 3, you see there are two anodes in the anti-ventilation plate.

Sorry I don't have any Alpha photos.
