1985 85hp ??

Hi Guys, i done did it now lol.. i went and bought a 85 force and stuck it on my boat, Question... they rebuilt the carbs BUT they cut an oring or seal and have ordered a new kit for it, im going to put it back togeather.. i have never worked on a crystler or force before so.. is there a "set" number to turns to start out with on the adjustments for the carbs???

on the bright side i did get the owners guide and some papers with it, its a one owner motor and he says they did all the maintence every year, it looks well maintained.. thanks for the help..

Hi there ,Screw needle home to lightly seated then back out 1 and a 1/4 turns ,when tuning do not go less then 3/4 turns out or you will be in lean burn and damage will almost certainly result. Hope this helps. If you are new to this site check out Frank Ankaporas posts he is the man. Jim B

You would be better off to stay above 11/8 on the upper two cylinders and 1 on the lower. The reason is that the current gasoline with alcohol burns differntly than the gas that was made in 1985.

Also, make sure that your overtemp alert works. If it overtemps at WOT, back off the timing to 28 to 30 degrees.

Also, buy a Clymer manual so you get to know the engine.
