Thanks a lot mark! I called on my foam order today and the lady said it will ship tomorrow.....They told me last thursday that it would ship monday or tuesday....I hate waiting!!!!!!! I can't finish this seating until I have the darn foam!!
I've been following along on your work Ciera2450 and am duly impressed by the work on your new bench. Mark's idea about deconstructing couch cushions makes great sense. While gathering the materials for the benches I'm building, my local marine supply store sold me some used boat seats that I cut open for the foam.
I really need to learn how to use the Admiral's sewing machine...nice stripes!!!
I'm going to just update this thread with the finished product of the new "L" seat. I'll also post a link to the thread that details the build and finishing. I received TONS of helpful advice from several members of iboats. Thank you very much!
Here is the new seat:
I'm unsure what the next project will be. I've started compounding the interior gelcoat areas and getting good results. Hope to get the entire area completed and waxed this week.
The captains chair looks completely out of place now with all the new vinyl everywhere. That looks like quite an upholstery project and i'm not sure if i want to tackle it. However, the price of a new captain's chair is quite a motivation to recover it myself!!!
Been outta town but I will have my boat back tomorrow from new lower install and replacing of the 4 Lexan windows ))) I also have little patience LOL I am currently rebuilding the L seat and would like ot add that read fold down seat to my boat in you get a chance Ciera to measure that for me I would greatly appreciate it ) I scored a 30ft slip for $275 a month super excited to launch boat this week...Pics to follow
daddybx, the rear seat measures 47" x 18". I used two 1/2" pieces of ply laminated together to make the base. The factory seat only had 1/2". Its attached by three hinges to the stern and has brackets to accept the poles that hold it up.
Here are all the pics I have currently of the stern seat and parts of the build for the new one..... Lemme know if ya need more.
note the small angled corner. I'm really unsure why it is there, the original seat had the angled portion and I simply copied the shape.I wish that I had just made it a rectangle. I reused the orignal 2" thick foam and covered it with new vinyl.
i'll bet thats angled to make you wana go that way to get on the swim platform.
i gotta tell ya man you did a fantastic job on your seats, i'm over here sittin in the jealous section. even tho its wednesday,,,, how did the weekend go with the new digs?
Not too far away at all Ciera!. My wife's family is all from Georgia (Augusta, Savannah, Dublin, Newnan). I'd say I'm more Bulldog than Illini. Got family in SC too. When I moved her up here near Chicago, Kankakee is as far north as she'd go. LOL
Mark, we had a great weekend! I took an afternoon nap on the new seat...lol The admiral really likes having room to sprawl out. I hope to get out there again this weekend but I'm in the middle of compounding the hull and dunno if i'll be finished by friday...My arms hurt.
Ciera2450 - I just read your threat. First, great job with the boat. You are very good with what you do and I love how meticulous you are, it shows. Oh, and thank you for the oven cleaner idea to get rid of bottom paint, I'd never heard of that!
What I wanted to comment on is your rear seat. I definitely think you need to get some sort of guard rail behind it so that it isn't dangerous for people to sit on it (and fall backwards). Even if it is just a railing, you could always stick a throw cusion in front of it until you figure out how to do something permanent.
By the way, what lake in Georgia to you boat on? I stayed a weekend on Clarks Hill lake before (I'm in florida)
Thanks for reading cptkid! I already have a railing installed on the stern. Those pics above are old and I just posted them to help out daddybx. I'm actually midway through making the backrest cushion that will attach to the railing also. I'll post up pics when completed.
I boat at Lake tobesoffkee and Lake Sinclair but have intentions of a trip to the coast very soon!!!!
woooo great choice. gotta enjoy these beautifull days...
i got a dumbphone,,,lol,,, so i cant post live pics even if i wanted to,,,,
