Here's the stuff I used that is neutralized by moisture/water. Need a hot dry day for it to work.

I'll stop by tomorrow to get a name on the NAPA stuff. I like the enviro friendly ones as water cleanup is the best.

Glad to see her flipped Joe! The light in the tunnel is getting closer .
I believe the answer is yes on painting the gluvit, but don't hold me to it{lol}

Not only can you paint it, you HAVE to paint it cuz it doesn't like UV. I prefer to apply it from the inside. Unfortunately I forget what the proper prep is. I think Bob knows.

yes i did the inside and i have to repair a few(found some leakers) and i thought of repairing them after i remove the bottom paint and hitting repaired one outside and inside

ok lets talk paint removal!!!
i'm using a chem stripper but it's not a thourogh as i'ld like. i am thinking of some mech. help. some have suggested that roughing up this thick paint might help the chem work better.
i thinking of a wheel i saw at the big box store looks like looks like a munch of sand paper pcs like a flapper?????
has any one used one how destructive is it(rivets)???

Hey Joe, I think that you are referring to a flapwheel or a flapsander?

They will remove a bunch of material depending on the grit that you pick up. They are nice for working on concaved surfaces because they deform more than a backed sanding disk, but they are still pretty serious. I guess it would depend on what grit you pick up, but I'd be careful that you don't remove too much material and make more work for yourself!
I would try going to your local welding shop and picking up a soft brass brush that you could chuck up in a drill. That might help you get through the paint without damaging rivets and the actual hull. This one seems kinda pricey, but I bet you could get one cheaper:

Joe, I am EXACTLY where you are at, so I'll be watching your thread to see what you land on, and I'm really hoping you post pics of the results 'cause stripping paint suuuuucks!

I ended up stripping, power washing & sanding...grrrr
In my opinion, the stripper works the best & easiest, however it seems as though it's only good for one layer at a time, at least that was my findings after doing multiple coats on some of the smaller hardware...also heard that by covering the stripper with saran wrap or similar helps it to work longer{not so fast to dry up}...

just be careful of the rivets when sanding if going that route.

Not boring at all. The repair shot is interesting, I guess there's some pretty serious waterproofing happening on the inside of those pop rivets used for the hole repair? Maybe replace with some solid head rivets??? Keep the pix coming - I think I speak for all of us, we LOVE pictures!!! Good job so far...
