Re: 1986 21 ft starcraft cc restore

did another leak test and there's still 1 little drip, drip, drip. it's coming from the center rib, so i'm thinking it's on the center line. and it's dripping from a weep hole about 5 ft from the stern. so i think that should narrow it, as if it was closer to rhe bow or stern it would of leak at one of those weeps.
i plan to gluvits the center 2 rivets on the ribs.

do you ever get an alum hull with absolute no leaks??

good news

i re gluvits the interior and still had a leak?????
i filled it and started to tilt front and back to try to find or narrow it down
no luck

i had a feeling it was an area that i put some ss bolts. i 5200 from the outside and heavy gluvits that area on the inside,
left the plug in... 2 inches of rain and bang no more leaks.
now i can comfortly move on

YES THE NEXT STAGE!!! ROB A BANK!!!

actually i'm going to
1-prime the inside of the hull (i'm 100% salt water figured it couldn't hurt)

2-purchase some ply and poly coat (couple boards at a time)

going to start at the bow so i can mount the custom fuel tank and ork my way back.

3-a cust gave me 100.00 gift card for cabelas so i'm going to buy 12 (12'x72") units of marine vinyl for the tops of the gunnels and the bow. i'm cheaping out and will try some creative ways to cover the seems should look good...we'll see!

4- finish paint the top of the hull (i'm afraid i might mess it up doing the above)

that's my plan and might not stick to it LOL

The bank thing is true. I'm sure if I could have added it up before I started then I probably would have just bought one a couple of years old instead of doing the restore.

If I would have just stuck to what I needed instead of wanted that would have made a difference too. :)

Anything worth doing is worth overdoing :)

as i said in an earlier post my neighbors all go by and say it will like a new boat when i get done. and i always say no, it will be better than new!!!!

It will be better than new. Their motivation was partly profit. In the end they could have done things cheaper but look how long these things have held up.

Yours will too...

started this yesterday (thunder storms) and finished today. don't know if it will help being in saltwater, but thought it couldn't hurt

i was so mad that i started and couldn't finish, cause of rain (which passed over) i had to clean the sprayer that i did what any man would do... i went fishing. started at some back water marshes and end at a local pier. That's when i spotted these and snapped some photos

Wow, we have similar sea creatures here called Dugongs. I was out on the water yesterday celebrating mid-winter's day and spotted this:

And in close-up.

A sea turtle. Really graceful to watch as it drifted passed the boat.

Keep up the good work Joe!

Re: 1986 21 ft starcraft cc restore

trying to do some work that will not cost me any $$. so i decided to cut some pieces of alum for the topsides of the transom(when i put the new skin on, i went straight across)

cut 2 pcs

then started on the rub rail removal. i was having a hard time as the channel has some dings in it so i made a handle, worked great

i'm going to continue on the inside to remove the old vinyl

Like the handle idea!
We cant win, either it's 100 degrees and humid or pouring rain!
Yes, I know we post during the winter how lucky we are, but running from Tsorms is getting old!
