Re: 1986 ss 201

Christmas in Mid-January, GREAT! New gauges definitely call for new switches...

Congrats.

Hmmm, that AL panel probably isn't bottom feeder priced, but would be nice as a cabin bulkhead alternative on a certain Islander rebuild @here somewhere..

hmmmmm... silver with wood and white guages... Humble opinion here... I would likely stick with the black you were thinking of instead of the silver and let the wood and gauge POP/ stand out! Something about silver being a cool tone and wood being a warm tone and best not to mix and match tones.... a graphic artist explained this to me last year. I just ask her when in doubt. Just a humble opinion though :)

Nice looking stuff ya got there --- especially the alumpanel!

I agree w/ IM that the black & teak would look better.

But the silver/gray hammered color would go w/ the blue & gray boat colors. Test spray a piece of anything w/ the hammered to layup next to the teak & upholstery. The hammered finishes often finish w a darker tone then you'd expect a 'Silver' to look...

Anything black could be used to simulate the black paint............

Okay guys , might have a little bit of a Jason moment going on here now. I was going to order the white gauges and stumbled on these, both the Admiral and I went wow, they are ordered.

So do we go with silver or black now?

Thanks for the reply Jim and JB, now lets hear your thoughts?

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm! Me likes those too!! I'd be really tempted to go with the silver paint and put the gauges in without the wood... see how it looks. You've kind of got a grey/silver theme going there with the seat posts and the vinyl.... have you thought of using a polished piece of alum as a backer instead of the wood??? May have to play with it... Jim

Re: 1986 ss 201

For the new gauges, black if you do use the teak, unless the Silver/Gray hammered is almost Charcoal. NOT anything close to the medium tone gray in your purchased silver faced gauge pix.

OK, IM is NOT helping

Hammered paint, the new gauges & NO teak, yeah, I can see that'd be a good combo

Polished aluminum panel, hmmm.... I think brushed aluminum panel maybe :)

lots of choices to choose from now...........

Question though:
Does the gauge backer color or material choice affect where the batteries are going? No, ok, just checking is all..............

Interesting Jim, now I'm really thinking. I had to build a new ski locker cover out of teak so I was going to try and tie it into the dash and use teak around the cup holder opening in the Dog House. But if if I dump the $200.00 worth of teak idea  and paint the dash hammered silver, then trim the D/H with aluminum plus the aluminum trim around the bow hatch and on the seam of the vinyl! HMMMMMMMMMMM

Those are sharp looking gauges, DII. Warm tone, cool tone. Huh? I thought tone was a knob on an old radio. Unfortunately I have no artiste on call so I would stick 'em in a purple dash. But the gauges are cool.

Oh no! You painted all over the Alupanel. BTW - Where is that stuff made? All my search results imply it's a UK product.

Is that the hammered Rusto? I think the gauges will look great against it. Nice tones.

Thanks GA, my search on the alupanel came up the same, but it is distributed all over. My Buddy with the Motor Home said he paid $100. for a 4X8 sheet, ( and it has a protective plastic film on both sides to protect the finish so I didn't paint the panel.)

I will have to put the gauge in the dash when they arrive, if black is better I can always put a coat of black over the silver.
