Nice man! Nice! Now... what kind of steering wheel is going to "Accessorize" the gauges and dash! :faint2:

Thanks Bud, Jim.
Jim i haven't given the steering a lot of thought as of yet. The old helm and steering wheel are in good shape so I may just use them?

Another vote for a super nice panel. Nice color, cool (?) tones. :) Waiting to see it mounted. :D

Thanks Jim, I think it was from laying under that Motor Home last weekend for two days at 0 C.:stupid:

Dozer - Laying on the ground or concrete @ freezing will make you fell bad anytime. Watch out for signs of getting worse, that stuff can hurt you.

Thanks a bunch guys, I think I'm on the mend now, will be a good weekend to stay in the hanger and work on an SS where it is nice and warm. The way the weather has been around here it is no wonder everyone is sick. Yesterday was one of the coldest this year -29c with a windchill of -44 as I'm typing this at 3:26am it is -2 on its way to the plus side.:canada:

Re: 1986 ss 201

I started on the casting deck this morning, a couple of guys have asked how to measure and mark the curve of the hull sides. Here is how I do it.

I lay out a center board even with the front of the consuls with a square line across every 6"s

deck001_zps7623dedb.jpg

Using this board as a guide for your tape measure, measure across the bow to the widest point remembering to alow for the thickness of the plywood you are using and the outward curve of the sides, ( the measurement will actually be the top of the ply)

deck002_zps9fdee883.jpg

Layout the ply with the widest mark (consul end) and mark a center line at 90 deg. Run the widest measurement across the sheet, then mark your 6"measurements on the center line and both ends and connect the dots across the sheet.

Now take the measurments you have from the center board in the first photo, divide them in half and mark them on the two outside
6" marks. I then clamp two small blocks at the base of the curve to hold my aluminum straight edge, curve the straight edge so it intersects on your 6" marks and draw the curve.
When you make your cuts set the jig saw at a 45 deg angle and stay out from your line at least a 1/4" I use a belt sander for final shaping. It means many lifts back into the boat but it is worth it for a good fit.

That's brilliant. Had a heck of time with that when I did mine (and obviously the previous "restorer" did as well as his panels were all weird).

Good plan, DII. A lot better than my fit and trim, continue until it's too narrow.

EZ - Good to see you. Been a while.
