Hey, if I make the 37 thousand mile journey to pound ya, will Mrs. Dozer let us chill in the Starcraft Hanger for a little while to smoke cigars and talk about boat stuff?

Re: 1986 ss 201

Okay got a little more done today. Working on putting the Nautalex on the rear seat boxes after three coats of spar. those of you interested I am posting a photo tutorial of how to install the vinyl. I'm not saying this is the best or only way just my version. I have lots of photos so it will take a few posts.

Start off by laying out your material leaving a 1 1/4"in allowance, make all your cuts with a straight edge, if the overlap is going to be visable. I also drew a line 1 1/4"in from one edge to follow as I rolled the box on the vinyl after glueing.

Using 3M spray 90 coat the vinyl and the wood for the first side, allow it to set up for 4 or 5 minutes, using the reference line glue the first side on and roll using a lino roller or the wifes rolling pin, better ask first or she may use it on you.

tutorial005.jpg

Spray glue on the next two panels and let stand for a spell, then roll the box on keeping the reference line on the edge.

tutorial006.jpg

I then pull the left over side up to mark it for a 3/4"overlap from the start then cut it off sqaure and glue and roll it.

Next using stainless steel staples secure the overlap seam

tutorial009.jpg

Starting on the edges.

tutorial010.jpg

Spray some glue on the allowance and the wood the required distance, then make an angled cut in each corner.

tutorial011.jpg

Use the palm of your hand from underneath andusing lots of pressure roll the vinyl onto the edge then the inside of the box, then use your thumbs to work the inside up and tight.

tutorial012.jpg

Trim the corners to get a nice flat fit, run a line of staples about a 1/4"from the top edge of the vinyl.

Probably bored the death out of some of you, if it helps someone great. 3M spray 90 is your best friend when it comes to working with vinyl.
