Re: 1986 ss 201
I started on the casting deck this morning, a couple of guys have asked how to measure and mark the curve of the hull sides. Here is how I do it.
I lay out a center board even with the front of the consuls with a square line across every 6"s
Using this board as a guide for your tape measure, measure across the bow to the widest point remembering to alow for the thickness of the plywood you are using and the outward curve of the sides, ( the measurement will actually be the top of the ply)
Layout the ply with the widest mark (consul end) and mark a center line at 90 deg. Run the widest measurement across the sheet, then mark your 6"measurements on the center line and both ends and connect the dots across the sheet.
Now take the measurments you have from the center board in the first photo, divide them in half and mark them on the two outside
6" marks. I then clamp two small blocks at the base of the curve to hold my aluminum straight edge, curve the straight edge so it intersects on your 6" marks and draw the curve.
When you make your cuts set the jig saw at a 45 deg angle and stay out from your line at least a 1/4" I use a belt sander for final shaping. It means many lifts back into the boat but it is worth it for a good fit.
