Hey Glen, I forgot to measure the clearance height of my trailer fenders before I lowered it, I lowered it 5 inches, put the axle above the springs, guess that means I have to raise the fenders by 5 inches am I right, don't want to end up with the problem you had I don't need to buy new tires, let me know.

Re: 1986 ss 201

Update on the 201, after waiting for a new carb and fuel pump installing both and a Mr. Murphy visit, it still ran like crap even worse than before. On the test hop yesterday I discovered a bad oil leak from the fuel pump. Brought her home and did some more testing, found I had missed one of the holes in the fuel pump gasket with the rear bolt. DUH. Fixed that and started looking at the carb. I have read in the Mercruiser forum to be careful when ordering a rebuilt carb from anyone other than a Mercruiser dealer. Well I'll tell you don't ignore that advice. I ordered mine form National Carburators never again. The carb was listed as specific build for a 4.3 Merc. test run and certified. YA RIGHT. As it turns out it had jets, and metering rods five sizes too big, three holes in the vacuum hose for the choke pulloff and the pin on the starboard side of the secondary butterflys was installed wrong and interfered with the choke housing. Once I switched all the part from my old carb to the new one the 4.3 runs great. On yesterdays hop of under 30 minutes I burned 6 gals of premium gas the whole back of the boat is covered in black carbon from the unburned gas.
I still have some prop issues I will deal with in the prop forum but am pretty happy now.
Of to the lake for the weekend.

Good news, Glen. Sounds like she is still running rich with the black smoke. Or you weren't going fast enough. :D

Sure happy for you Glen. I hope that takes care of your problems with her so you can enjoy the rest of your summer. It is such a bummer that we have to deal with disreputable merchants.

Thanks everyone, she is running better, but I'm still not entirely happy with her. There still a problem somewhere that come H@#$ or high water I'm going to figure out. She should perform better than she is.

Re: 1986 ss 201

Another update. Went out to the lake for the weekend, motors running way, way better just not quite %100 yet. Little bog if to hammer it down and a slight miss at wot. I still have to check the rpm with a shop tach to confirm where I'm at. It was too windy today to do much high speed.
One of the problems I have had is the boat seemed to wallow bow heavy and it seemed like I couldn't trim it up enough to get over it. So last night I took the trolling motor and the batteries for it out of the bow floor compartment, for a total of about 240lbs. When we took her out this morning it was like going from a big old Cadillac to a sports car. The bow will now come way up and I finally got her over 40 mph, and it handles tight turn the way it should.
The only problem I have now is it's not going to be the fishing fun rig I had expected, with the narrow sharp bow it just doesn't like to carry a load.
Any one know where the is a 20 SS for sale. I'm pretty sure this one is going to have a new owner. Yikes you should have seen the look on the Admirals face when I said that.
