Glen, I am really digging those transom hatches you have started back there I'm thinking just about the same sort of set up for the Islander

Thanks Jason, those hatches were there on the origional design, the port side had the staring in battery in it, and the starboard was full of junk. They were both open into the engine compartment. I am going to make them into closed storage for 14x9 Plano boxes for tackle storage, can put about 6 on each side.

Thanks Jim, five seats the two for the captain and the Admiral will be on fixed pedistals, the other three on interchangable ones.

Okay, I need some help with what I'm thinking for seating and storage, I have five seats, two will be fixed, one for the helm and one for the Admiral. I am going to do the same design for the casting deck as I did on the last three SS. One pedistal seat and I will sew up a couple cushions for just in front of the consuls. The rear seating is the delima.

Most of the fishing we do is anchored, jigging for Walleye and Perch, the wife and I like to sit back to back on the dog house fishing out the sides. In my 18 SS we have to put our feet on the seats beside the doghouse which is causing a lot of wear, so here is what I'm thinking.
I will build two boxes, one on either side of the doghouse hinged to open back, one will house the battery the other for storage. I am going to use Springfield King pin Pedistals like these.

I will put a total of five base plates in, on in the bow, two between the helm and Admirals seat as seen in the pic, and two one on each box next to the dog house.

When we are not fishing we can move the two middle seats with out the extention too the boxes at the rear for cruising.
Let me have it what do you think???

Looking great man!!! You have the same idea with the Plano boxes as I do. I also plan on relocating my batteries to the port side down on the floor. I planned on boxing them in with a hinged top and the box will also double as a boarding step for skiiers and such. What about mounting the bases either right on the steps or to the dog house itself? I am not sure how sturdy your top will be. I am planning on just using mine for bait cutting so the hinged top will be made out of aluminum honeycomb and the base out of leftover 3/4 ply, but that will make the back to back fishing a little more comfy!!

I like the seat idea, Glen. Seating for four in the cockpit and the two movables give you some nice options. Will the box tops give enough support for the pedestals?

Hey glen, idea sounds good. Have you considered just having the middle seats at the back and having a hinged desk master covered board flip down for your feet to rest on when you and the admiral are fishing at the back? This way you are not moving seats back and forth and the cabin is left wide open behind the helm and front admiral's seat.... just some food for thought perhaps! From the way you described it, the middle seats we not going to be used until they were at the back for for cruising only.... so protect them with a mini deck of sorts when fishing and flip up the deck when cruising. Saves two extra pedestals!

Thanks GA, the boxes won't get the pedistal just the seat, these Springfield units are three pieces, base plate, post and seat plate, so just the seat plate woould slide into a base plate in the top of the box.

Hey Jim, good ideas there, I will have to play with that a little, from the rear deck to the consuls is twelve feet, I'm a little worried it is going to look like something is missing without the middle seats?? Plus I was thinking the middle seats would be a safer place for the Grand kids to fish than the casting deck or dog house???

Unless you and the wife are trying to avoid sitting on the doghouse. The boxes would have to be tall so you guys aren't sitting in a hole between the DH and sides.

TWELVE FEET - You have room for the Canadian Starmada Awards Banquet, including wet bar and dance floor! The orchestra might have to set up in the bow. I see why you're trying to fill some space.

Okay here are the pics, there is 4' between the rear and midship seats and 3.5'between the midship and Admirals seat. hope this helps bring things into perspective.

Now I only have five seats and one will be up in the bow, so the others will either be next to the dog house or midship??

That looks really Sharp just as it is! Good perspective on the distances... It is really almost even between each seat.
Have u considered making seats at the back whereby the back rest would flip down to protect the seat? Then u would have 4 seats mid ship, admiral, yours + 1 up front? Just thinkin....

Hey Paddi, that's awsome, I grew up in Winnipeg and rural Manitoba, spent a lot of time at a small lake outside of Kenora called Sherwood lake, never did get to Lake of the Woods, wish I had of though. pic would be great.

Your rebuild is looking great. Not familiar with Sherwood Lake. East or West of Kenora? I scrounged up a photo of our SS201. Hope my attempt to post the photo works... seems to only let me post a thumbnail. If you look past the tuckered out junior seaman, notice the lower strake on ours continues all the way forward up the bow. I think from reading earlier posts that this is what constitutes the V5 hull.



I know you have a Merc so I won't slag it but you can see in the photo we run the original OMC drive with the gear-driven tilt. They are fantastic for speed and degree of tilt and for range of steering angle. With that drive we can spin this boat in its own length.

Great looking boat Paddi, V5 it is, and the white leg of death as some would call it. Good thing you say it has been look after flawlesly, as it is getting real tough to find parts for the OMC. Sherwood lake is about 6 miles west and north of Kenora.
