Hi all,
I recently and maybe regretably purchased a 86 islander at a auction. I inspected the boat as best as could before the auction, appeared to be in better than average condition, it is a 205 mercruiser that does run great with 310 hours. Upon getting it home I discovered that the transom is rotted below the floor line and when we put it in the water the first time, there is a leak around the outdrive. That appears to be the boot on the shift cable. The question I have is this, I have no experience with I/O boats, can i repair this myself or do I need to have somebody pull the outdrive and reinstall it for me, I figure if I need to pull the outdrive might as well replace the transom at the same time. Any help with this would be appreciated.
Thanks
