I recently bought a 1987 14' Bayliner Capri. It's been thru the mill and I'ld like to clean it up a little. Most of the interior has been changed and not for the better. I'm trying to find pictures of what it originally looked like. Does anyone have one of these boats and could you share some pictures of the interior?

EDIT. I have the 1986 brochure. The colors are different but the boat didn't change.

SHoot me an email - I have the 1986 brochure. The colors are different but the boat didn't change.

This is the guy to listen to when it comes to knowing his stuff (if mtrain is who I think he is!).

How many other idiots in this world still have a 1986 Bayliner brochure? :)

BAM!

Thank you, I'll be here all week.

They also made a 1401 Bass Trophy version of this boat with casting platforms instead of vinyl seats in the bow, complete with metalflake gelcoat.

I have to say that is one hot Mercury Lynx sitting in the driveway of the brochure. I wonder if that is what they used to pull the boat with?

Hey now. I owned a classic 1982 version of that steaming, er, chariot. My first car. Spent more time in the shop than it did in the garage. Two tone blue, with a similar shade of blue coming out the exhaust every time I started it.

That one appears to be a 1984 - 1985 version, based on the grille. If that's the case, the woman has more horsepower than the car does.

Guilty as charged! My first car was an 84' model that was white. Only went into the shop one time and that was when I thought I had the 4WD version. Turns out, they do sink in 3 feet of mud!

Oh dear. Another Lynx owner.

IN that case, I have to call "You're doing it wrong". You need to build up a sufficient enough head of steam (which is a laughable concept in an Escort/Lynx, but humor me here for a second...). They are very light, and will skip off of mud, major puddles, small lakes, and in some cases, telephone poles if you hit them hard enough.

Other nuggets of Mercury Lynx wisdom:

The brakes experienced major fade at anything over 40 mph, especially when chasing a down your friend in a 1993 Mercedes 190E at 3:00 a.m. with the headlights out. In the rain.

The wheels were steel and didn't seem to care when you had flat tires.

THere was no clutch interlock on the ignition. Also, the bumpers were made of extremely hard steel with 5mph impact absorbers. These two facts are interrelated.

The door locks were merely suggestions.

0-60 was measured in wheezing bouts of out-of-control laughter.

Top speed was front-drivetrain-vibration-limited to 65 mph if your health insurance was active.

The car will shed various items (mufflers, carburetors, etc) at very inopportune times, like when going over a railroad crossing with an extremely hot girl in the car.

TO get the car to run correctly, my mechanic tuned it in such a way that it belched smoke and backfired whenever you let off the gas. This meant dropping your girlfriend off "after hours" required serious creativity. Thank God for manual transmissions....

Between the oil leaks and the startup smoke, my car was a rolling superfund site.

I am sure I can come up with more...

He's just a kid with a bunch of Bayliner brochures.
He doesn't work on boats or owns one !!.
He gives out ill advice on how to work / repair on Cobra out-drives. !! .

The mods on here won't save him like they did over on BOC. :D

I got the boat cheap but now that I had a mechanic working on it for a while, I have paid for it twice. At least I know the Timing has been done, new plugs, new thermostat, all new seals in the lower unit, new water pump. I shouldn't have any problems for a while, I hope. Sent the prop out to be reconditioned. Still having a problem with the carb though. We haven't replaced the float and needle valve yet, hoping that takes care of it. Haven't been on a boat in 17 years, but 2 seconds on the water and I got the bug back.

Re: 1987 14 Bayliner Capri

Have the boat out of the water for the first time now and noticed a nice little hole in the hull. Looks like from a rock maybe. It's about 3" in diameter and shows the jagged edges of the fiberglass. I?d like to patch it but not sure how to go about it. I don't have access to that spot on the inside of the boat. What would be the best way to patch it from the outside?

Great help!

The hull ID will tell it all...

Thanks for stepping in Bayliner guys!

As long as I am on this site, there's no need for Bayliner Customer Support. ;)

Nothing against them, they're great guys, its just I know way more about Bayliners than I probably should...

Not doubting your knowledge but if they can look up the exact build sheet from the HIN they can tell everything that came on the boat.:)

We appreciate all the members input.
