I bought A 1990 Glastron Sierra in June of this year. I'm new to boat ownership and like most had no idea what to look for. The boat was at a local boat dealership and I was told it had been checked out and good to go. The first time out we had carburetor trouble barley making it back to the landing. I rebuilt the carburetor and we had a decent trip the next time we took it out. The last time the impeller went out and I was stuck bringing her in with the paddle. At this point I decided to take the boat down for the year and try to find all the gremlins. The further I tore into the boat the more I found. which brings me to where I currently am in the build deck out, transom out, and stringers cut out to the consoles.
I am to the point where I need some help. My transom was all the way across the back of the boat but only had foam on the sides. It has a tunnel at the back of the hull similar to Frisco's Glastron. I am considering changing the design of the transom to the tunnel so I can tab into the sides of the tunnel. I feel like this would add a good bit of strength to the transom. Also my boat has foam covered with fiberglass on the gunwales. Can I tab the deck into this or do I need to cut it out?
I'll try to get some pictures up soon.
