I picked up a used 18' Tracker Bass Buggy with a 60HP Johnson Pro Series the other day for next to nothing. Boats in decent shape but motor has no fire at all. According to the previous owner he thought the stator was bad so I checked the stator and it does have some cracking going on with the shell. It is also the wrong part number. The part number of the stator on the boat is 584560 which is for a 92-2001 motor. Upon seeing this I also checked the power pack which is also the wrong part number. The power pack part number is 584808 which is supposed to be for a 93-2001 motor.
The correct part numbers for my boats stator and power pack are 583779 and 583748 respectively.
I say all this to ask if having the wrong part numbers on the motor can cause any ill effects and also if the stator having surface cracks could cause the lack of spark. Is there any thing else I should try to trouble shoot the no sparking issue? I know everyone always says to disconnect the black/yellow wire but I can't find anywhere to disconnect the black/yellow wire on this motor and also the boat doesn't appear to have been equipped with a kill switch.
