I saw a sealed u-joint in a new truck that had no grease in it. I have seen a few u-joints missing a couple needles. When in doubt, suspect even new u-joints.

Did the alignment get checked when the work was done on the drive shaft?

new prop, just checked alignment, it is off can not tip engine enough for tool to slide easy. previous own had engine out to replace a mount, then he burnt up gimbal bearing. then i bought it, new joints new shaft new gimbal, ran smooth for about hour, started vibration. have slight scoring on new shaft at gimbal.

Don't run it until alignment is perfect. May need to pull engine to make sure all the mount parts are present in place and/or not damaged. Also check transom and stringers for dry rot - which should be called wet rot. Take a drill and mark it with tape so it goes in no further than 1 1/4". Drill an inch or so away from the lowest keyhole bolt in the transom and drill near and below the motor mounts. Anything except light colored wood may be the cause of the problem. You can easily fill the holes with 3M 5200 which can come in small to large tubes.

In additon to what Rick mentioned check the gimbal bearing is fully seated and turn freely, If it is scoring the shaft it may have not been fully seated or damaged by not pressing on the outer race to seat it, or the alignment is horribly off

bearing is seated, used bushing driver to seat, port side mount the bolt looks to be going in at a angle.

Port side bolt for mount into transom plate or into stringer? If its the lag into the stringer that isnt a big deal but wouldnt surprise me if you have issues with the rear mounts either sagging or missing parts.

Note, a gimbal bearing driver is relieved so it only impacts the carrier, not the bearing. The bearing is taller than the carrier and using a tool that is not relieved will destroy the smooth surfaces inside the bearing itself.

bushing drive had a lip on it, port side rear mount bolt is at a angle, all parts are there but looks cooked. when you first install aligning tool it kicks a little to left to start and goes in tight. up and down makes no difference. going to install new mounts, coupler, and gimbal tomorrow.

Make sure to check the transom for rot while you are in there, otherwise all the other work and elbow grease could be for nothing

Need to stick with this thread instead of starting another. Your new thread is in the FAQ section and no one can reply. Stick with this thread

Post a pic of your rear mounts

If the rear mounts were replaced with new style then you might not use the spring washers. If not then are the spring washers in place?

engine still out of alignment, new rear mount, front mount had already been replaced, new gimbal bearing, installed with new bearing tool. front of engine will not go low enough. original bearing failed to the point shaft had to replaced.

can i shim rear mounts?
No

Post a pic of the rear mounts

Does the alignment bar go into the coupler at all, and if so how far?

If it doesn't go in, where does it touch (top, bottom, side)?

Can the fiber washer be moved?
