Let's do a quick brainstorm for anyone who can meet up on the LI Sound the last weekend in August. i am open to suggestion for a good location between Manhattan and Montauk, LI to CT.

I will have my wife and 2 kids (Joe 8 and Aidan 4) and think it would be great to have a nice spot somewhere where we can all tie up and be able to swim and raft. A beach we can swim or raft to would also be awesome!

What do you guys think?:)

I plan be on the island that week. Be hanging in Sag Harbor. Keep me posted, might be able to stop by for a quick launch.

I would love to have this in 3 mile harbor! It is a trip I have been wanting to take this summer. I hear it's paradise. About a 5 hour run for me but I heard well worth it. Still much cheaper than a trip to the Bahamas!! :D

LoL - Nice! NO GIN is actually how my last name (Knoetgen) is pronounced. Since the first grade I have been telling my teachers "no beer, no wine, no gin." They seamed to get it correct after hearing that! :D

PS - Booze a plenty on board NO GIN!!!!!

Please PM NoGin for more details or to register. I am considering having 18" bow flags and t-shirts made up for our event. We need to make the decision very soon so we can arrange everything in time. :p

Thanks.

There are many marinas and launches in three mile harbor.

Get on Google Earth and search for "Three Mile Harbor, East Hampton, NY" and it will pop up. It would be about a 1.5 to 2 hr drive from the George Washington Bridge.

If members want to spend a weekend, hotels and such will be expensive. If you can sleep on the boat, all the better.

I'd probably put in at the Sag Harbor launch, then take about a 40 minute ride (at about 15-20 mph) over to Three Mile Harbor.

What would it be like to put in by new london, and cross the sound in my bayliner/force, or better in my cruiser merc i/o , first time in big water, I can stay cheap in New London sub base. or use the marina there and rent a power boat.

You guys should meet up and make a cruise to Sag harbor! Make a nice trip out of it and it will not only be a blast but also a safety net for any issues you may have crossing the sound! :)

Now that we have a little chatter about this can you guys please do me a flavor and PM me if you are planning on coming? It's just a couple of weeks away and I am trying to arrange some cool stuff for us at 3 Mile Harbor!

Thanks.

Take the ferry over to the north fork. Not sure how much it would cost for a car and trailer, but its do-able. Put in at one of the launches near Shelter Island. From there it would be a safe trip in relatively protected waters. We could meet up in Sag Harbor by the Long Wharf (near the bridge to North Haven), or somewhere along the north fork on the Shelter Island side, say by the ferry and head over to 3 mile harbor.

Have a marine radio?

I called the Cross Sound Ferry Service. From New London CT to Orient Point NY is a whopping $46, plus about an additional $3 per foot of trailer (from bumper to end of trailer). Thats one-way, no round trip discounts. It will run you about $220 or so round trip with the boat. Sounds expensive to me.

From CT take the Orient Point Ferry from New London. Then launch your boat and you will only have about an hour or two cruise to 3 mile harbor depending on cruising speed.

How about towing the boat around the sound and back up the island? About 3 hr drive give or take traffic.

Pack an overnight bag, and a sleeping bag and sleep on the boat. That should save a few bucks on accommodations.

If anyone is interested, the Barons Cove Inn is a reasonably priced hotel in Sag Harbor. Used to stay there years ago and it was about the same as a Quality Inn. About 3 minutes to the Sag Harbor Marina Launch. http://baronscove.com/ There are others, but much more expensive.
