If the block was NOT drained how do you know the manifolds were drained as that is one BIG honking block crack

Since you have the engine manual, go to section 11 of the manual. Page 2

Yes, you need to pull the drive. While you may have room to clear the shaft, you really take a big chance of screwing up the splines in the coupler. Plus you have to have the drive off when you put the new engine back in so you can align it.

Ohh, they were not drained. Still water in them when I pulled.
So is it protocol to just get new manifolds?
Do shops magnuflux these marine manifolds?
They look pristine but I can imagine the water jackets inside may have cracked?

Thanks for the heads up tommays

If they have cracks inside that you can't see and you put that boat in salt water, my guess is it will open up and you may not notice it. Then water leaks into your cylinders after you shut it off. Sits there for a few days and you now need a new engine AGAIN

Just depends on how lucky you feel. Rather you want to use them or not.
I sure wouldn't.

Re: 2000 Volvo Penta 5.0 replacement questions

Soo.. I went and looked at them and some blackish/carbon like water came out.........
I imagine that would not be normal? Seems to me it would indicate water in the exhaust runners.
You guys are saving my ***.
Thanks again!

P.S. I have my eyeball on a closed cooling system. An aftermarket one. I bet it's worth every penny of the 700.00???

Hey Don!!

Hey Don!!

You will find all the info on carb differences, timing, all the little stuff in the manuals. The upgrade to a 5.7 (in looks alone) effects only the decals.

The manuals you need for the 5.0 and/or the 5.7 will be.
Workshop manual Engine --------------------- 7797353
Workshop manual Electrical, Ignition, Fuel ------ 7743244
Supplement, wiring diagrams ------------------ 7743245
SX outdrive -----------------------------------3850075

Also, you can go to this link.
http://www.volvo.com/volvopenta/global/en-gb/marineengines/operators_manual/operators_manual.htm

Locate your engine model number and download an owners manual. It's the same manual for a 5.0 or 5.7

Hey Don, I hope you get this.
I have been trying to find these manuals and finally went down to my local shop and was given different numbers. I was wondering if you could confirm these numbers. I didn't order them in hopes that you could confirm these are the most current.

Workshop manual Engine --------------------- 7797353 This one I got on ebay for 20.00
Workshop manual Electrical, Ignition, Fuel ------ 7743244------They said 7797355
Supplement, wiring diagrams ------------------ 7743245------They said 7743244 and that there was another one too?? 2 supplements, what are these supplements??
SX outdrive -----------------------------------3850075-----They said I need 7743008

Your help is appreciated:)

P.S..
I have been referring to my motor as a 5.7gs pefs, I bought a marine 4bbl and with the 5.7 that makes this correct??? Would this change the manual numbers even though they are all covered under the same manuals??

While it Is Possible that, Even though they were Frozen,.....
That they Didn't Crack,........

The Odds are Slightly Worse than Winning the Lottery.........

It's 1 Bet,... That I would Not take...............
Not with a Brand New Motor as the Bet...........

Re: 2000 Volvo Penta 5.0 replacement questions

I have the same issue as described here, but I have removed the heads and manifold, without removing the stern drive. Is it too late to remove the stern drive? Is there a way to lower it directly or do I need to hook up all of the eletrical parts and lower this?
