Ouch, you know they are marshalling just across the border in Toronto. That ^^^ might be enough to warrant a warning shot across our bow :eek:

Yeah, but they have to get through our Northern defences with all the coloured pins. :) They look better organized though. :rolleyes:

Yeah, no offense to anyone working the border (either side) but I've been across our northern border & I wouldn't want to depend on the border place keepers on either side repelling an determined invading force :facepalm:

Being spread out might work in our favor when the Starmada gorilla warfare starts. Small independent cells working autonomously could be a good thing.

Has everyone that's been nominated shown their acceptance to "stand" for nomination? Perhaps if a PM was sent to each requesting that they indicate their willingness to take on the weighty responsibility of wearing the crown for the next year, making it the winner's responsibility to organize the 2014 SOTY. - Grandad

Late add:

Makes the total nominees 14. You can only post 6pix per post. That means there has to be 3 SOTY 2013 threads to list all the nominees, w/ thread links & a pix. I've already got a list of 6 for the 1st of the 3 threads. More coming................

I'll have another suggestion that I'll post here after I get the 3 SOTY 2013 threads posted....

Re: 2013 soty award nominations

Ok, there are 3 SOTY 2013 polls live, w/ a pix of each nominee on the thread that has them in the poll, there's a master list (w/ hot links to the boat threads) at the beginning of each thread, and a cross link to the other 2 poll threads.

It is noted repeatedly to vote only once in 1 poll. The results are public so it'll be obvious if someone votes more then once.

The 3 poll threads:
1st HALF of the 14 SOTY 2103 Nominees, (6 of 14)please only vote once

2nd group of SOTY 2013 nominees (next 4 of 14)

Last group of 4 nominees for SOTY 2013, (last 4 of 14)

Now the suggestion, or comment really. Not that the work isn't worth a nomination, or the builder deserving of the award, but if the builder isn't active, perhaps Grandad's suggestion of having a nominee confirm their nomination, and only those that post SPLASH pix are eligible. That would only take a PM from the nominator to the nominee w/ a link or quote to the nomination thread would allow the nominee to accept the nomination.

Else it may be an ordeal to get them in communication w/ the current plaque holder, and more importantly, pay for the plate engraving & the shipment of the plaque.

There's also 'only' confirmation via text of several nominee's splash, but no actual pix of the splash. Perhaps a splash underway pix requirement. Given the Starmada creed of: Pix or it didn't happen, it shouldn't be too tough to post up a pix of a splash.

Having 14 nominees, makes a poll thread difficult if you want to include pix, w/ the 6 pix per post limit.

I guess a link to their thread & a link to a post in the thread that has the splash pix, rather then posting the actual pix would be an option.

Thanks for putting the poll together, JB. Y'all can see where my vote went now (hint: not a Chieftain :) ). I'll have to do this again in a year with a weaker pool of candidates. Maybe stash it 'till the opportunity presents itself :watermelon:

It was a toss up for me, but the other choice won the darn thing last year...

Thanks for all the help in the resto forum, dudes.

Re: 2013 soty award nominations

this was a tough one, there were several amazing rebuilds, I feel bad only picking one!

and thanks so much to all of you guys for sharing your knowledge, and many pictures, it has been an enormous aid to my own rebuild, giving me so much advice, encouragement and ideas. This has got to be the best forum I've ever participated in.

Re: 2013 soty award nominations

Perhaps it wasn't clear for the SOTY 2013 poll threads: Cast 1 vote, in only 1 of the 3 threads NOT in each of the 3 poll threads. There are 14 boats in total nominated, iboats only allows 10 poll choices, and only allows 6 pix per post, hence the need for 3 threads. VOTE FOR ONLY 1 builder/boat project out of the 14.

A few of you may have voted in more then 1 thread. If so, I'll touch base @ 1/15 to see which builder/boat you'd like your vote to count towards.

If someone has a suggestion to keep the total # under 10 next year, please let me know. I posted up some suggestions that I thought might be helpful above somewhere....

Again, VOTE ONLY ONCE :watermelon:

Oops - I'm one of the ones that screwed up. Sorry about that. I'll send you a PM with my vote. Thanks for setting this up!

Re: 2013 soty award nominations

I hate you guys for doing such great jobs and making this decision so difficult!!!

I've changed my mind like 50 times (to the point of even developing a scorecard...and changed the scoring 50 times :lol:)

Some serious competition across the board! :hail:

My vote will likely be cast on 01/14/2014 23:59hrs (EST) :frusty:

You've got until about 8pm EST on the 15th, so you've got an extra 20hrs +/-. Should allow for plenty of additional scorecard adjustments :rolleyes:

If you'd like help w/ your methodology, post up your criteria & scoring system, we'd love to help...........

Is it more of a list of Pro's & Cons of a build?

A sliding total of pluses & minuses?

Does the end product solely justify the scoring ?

Or do the trials & tribulations overcome during a build add to the score?

How does being the worst basket resurrected impact a boat's final score?

Are extra points available for flare when boat building? {IMHO, InMotion & DozerII are currently leading the pack in this catagory, based on the video evidence provide of their boat flipping adventures. For SOTY 2014 or 15 Jas will likely gain quite a few of these flare bonus points [Insert the 'see an Islander dance a jig' pix here]}

Does the decorative elements in or the functionality of the boat building facility add or detract from a builder's score? {InMotion earns a -3 for the wreath, [Sorry Jim], but gains a double +2 for the awesome boat building den/man cave he's created and the supersized Starcraft logos hanging above the workshop. Totals a +1. :facepalm: DozerII scores a +2 for the awesome SC hanger AND another +2 for having the current SOTY 2012 award hanging on the wall. For a total of +4}

Is it part of the initial boat building score, or extra bonus points for innovative, thorough, well executed amenities added to a build? {I think that Grandad earns a healthy +3 based on the awesome graphic rendering of & perfectly executed porta-pot privacy screen setup, his Holiday's tower/arch, and his bimini construction.}

Or any of the other really good details some of the folks have put into their builds...... Perhaps your right, tough scoring, no matter how it's done :cool:

{The above is a random splattering of thoughts, not meant to sway any votes or down play the efforts of those mentioned or unmentioned
}
Have a great day.

Re: 2013 soty award nominations

It's a good thing we don't have extra awards like car/bike shows have longest distance, best paint, etc. BlueFin would have Best Bang For The Buck wrapped up for next year. :D Lord knows he has plenty of buck bangin' goin' on.:joyous:

Re: 2013 soty award nominations

thank you jb...for the additional time & more elements to score! :madgrin:

10 points to start. deductions for gigs on primary build elements (motor, trailer,exterior, interior, starmada-code violations, etc.)...Very few deductions in this pack! Bonuses for Good-creativity (not to be confused with life endangering creativity), ingenuity, craftsmanship, splash success (i.e. like exceeding the 50mph mark!), adversity (cough, cough), etc.

Ohhh I think someone might be setting the line for his UMMMM 2014 nomination ;)

So are you going to go hand grade everyone of them for us now?

I will take bucking and adding a few rivets over scraping out rotten poured in foam any day of the week. Honestly Blue after seeing the quality of your work there really isn't much out there that surpasses it, you very well may get my vote come 2014
